Q: Why do people ask non-vet strangers about serious dog health questions?
If their dog seems to be dieing, why dont they go straight to the vet?
They sit on their freaking computer asking us when we cant even see or examine the dogs.
Theire ‘beloved’ pet is dieing, and if its serius, there often isnt a home remedy.
Why are people so stupid?
Do you agree?
A: I’m on your side.
And frankly, if we give veterinary advise here, we are guilt of dispensing Veterinary Medicine without a license, something highly frowned upon by the profession.
And the scariest part is, some of the ‘advice’ dispensed here would end up killing the dog….
Q: Dog Health Questions on Yahoo?
It never ceases to amaze me how many people seem to think that potentially serious and life threatening illnesses and injuries can be diagnosed and treated by posting a question here.
The answers they get are invariably “take your dog to the vet now!!” or well meaning folk try to help with answers that may be right or may be wrong.
Shouldn’t Yahoo split the Dog section into two and call one “Dog Health”?
Every time someone posts a question under Dog Health they could get a message and email saying something like:
“If you are worried about any aspect of your Dog’s health we strongly advise you to seek appropriate advice from a Veterinary Surgeon”.
A: I totally agree. If my dog was vomitting, had bloody stool, or was screaming in pain (which we`ve all heard on here before), the LAST thing I would be thinking of is to get on my computer and log into Yahoo. Then again, I have an emergency fund of $1500 for my dog, that stays topped-up at all times, so I would never ever find myself in a position where I `can not afford` to take him to the vet.
I don`t think anything we, or Yahoo, does will stop people from trying to find a quick, cheap (or free) fix for their dogs health problems. People shouldn`t even own pets, if they aren`t prepared for the medical expenses that can be associated with illness, disease, and other emergencies.
Q: Do you know of or recommend a site that gives sysmptoms & suggestions for Dog (K-9) Health questions?
I tried just doing a yahoo search and all the sites I go to seem to make you ask a question then offer you an answer at a price….. I’m looking for a regular site that gives common illness/symptoms and suggestions for free just for informational purposes….
Can you recommend any???

Q: Can someone help me with a dog health question?
My dog keeps scratching her ears. After a week I finally looked in there and one of them has black/brown colored “goop” in it. We took a Qtip and put alcohol on there to clean it out. We couldnt get it all. Does anyone know what she might have? Also, is there something at the pet store we could get. Trying to avoid a Vet bill unless she needs Rx’s. Thanks for any help.
A: they sell ear cleaner at Petsmart. clean em for a few weeks, if it doesn’t go away, it could be ear mites…then you need to go to the vet…shouldn’t be too expensive. (probably just dirty)
Q: Dog health questions please answer?
There are a few questions about worming today, do you think it wise that we recommend what WE do even if it goes against vets advice? eg – I only worm my dogs twice a year, vets in the UK recommend quarterly.
Also when a question goes to voting is it OK to vote for ones own answer?
In the UK we don’t have some of the awful worms that you do in the States, (heartworm for instance) and we don’t do the tests, we treat for round and tape. This is my point I don’t think it nescessary to treat for worms quarterly but the vets do and is it right that we recommend to less experienced owners our opinions?
Yes I think that voting for ones own answer is cheating.
A: I live in the UK (don’t be too complacent about heartworm by the way, it is known in the UK although it’s not yet endemic here) and I prefer not to overload my animals with constant worming either. Never have, and it’s not been an issue with mine.
I do worm my puppies according to the normal recommendations however and also their dams.
Q: Dog health questions?
Ok, 2 questions for you guys
1-Zoey seems to have a bald spot on her front leg, around the “elbow”. Its not too big, maybe be the size of a dime if it was perfectly round. It doesn’t seem to be a hot spot, just bald and the skin is somewhat flaky around it. Any ideas as to what it could be?
2- Her nose had a bump, like a swelling from bite. The puppy and her got pretty rough yesterday and I’m wondering if this is what it’s from. It has gone down, but could it be something else?
She eats canidae, so I’m not sure if it’s the food or not.
She’s 9 months old.
Neither seem to bother her, she doesn’t scratch or lick or anything.
But I’d rather be safe than sorry!
Not RW, she’s on HW meds and they kill RW too.
A: Hello Randee
1. this is a common spot for a common problem
it’s a pressure sore (100% positive)
2. if it’s gone, ignore it, perhaps write yourself a little note when/if it comes back
Have a great w/e
Q: dog questions, health and allergies etc?
well after years of asking my mum if i can get a dog, she is finally considering it
but there are problems
she has allergies
she is scared of large and medium dogs, she doesn’t even like chow chows !
no-one will be at home when i am at school
she had considered a chow chow but breeders are hard to find and they shed a lot and she thinks they look like wolves which she doesn’t like and they have lots of health issues.
also i have two guinea pigs and we have had a lot of bad experiences with small animals, this time last year i bought two guinea pigs from the pet shop and turned out they were pregnant and then between them they had size babies, five months on they all got an infection and i could only save one baby and her auntie never got ill.
this year i bought a baby rabbit, she was so sweet i made a noise and she kissed my nose, then one day when she was 4 months old she jumped into the guinea pig cage while having one of her night time hyper jumps and landed badly on a hammock and broke her spine.
so a sturdy dog would be appreciated
also my mum only likes “cute” dogs like shih tzu’s
so any suggestions
oh and my dad is getting a house and it might be right at the school so when i’m at his house i can go see the dog at break and lunch
and would it be okay if it went to my mums house one week and my dads the next ? if not i could keep it at one and go see it all afternoon
Thankyou in advance

Q: i have a dog health question where do i get the answer?
she is in pain, shaking, and crying.
A: Okay, listen when a dog does this you need a vet imediately, nomatter what. if you don’t have the money most vets will work out payment arangements. Nomatter where you are there will be a 24 hour pet hospital, so there’s no reason not to take her.
Please, hurry, she may or may not have time.
Q: Dog care. Questions about dog health?
My dog ingested a bottle of grape seeds, is there any adverse effects from this I should be ready for?
A: I’m sorry to have to clarify this but the dog ate the bottle containing the seeds, or just a whole bottle of product? At any rate although grapes/raisins are poisonous to dogs the seeds are actually excellent for their health. With as much as your pup ingested I would worry about diarrhea but other than that I think she should be OK.
Grape seed extract supposedly contains powerful antioxidants to help fight respiratory problems, allergies, inflammation, and some types of skin problems, as well as support immune system and circulatory functions.
Q: WHY WAS REMOVED?: “Why do people ask health questions about their dog, then ask if they should be worried?”?
I asked this yesterday, got some interesting answers, then today it is removed! WTF?
A: In your violation notice, there should have been a reason listed.
Most likely, this was considered chatting by the powers at Y!A. If you disagree, use the dispute form to challenge it, but it’s rare to get a turnover.
Unfortunately all the bad owners and Backyard Breeders are constantly reporting anything that rocks their little insane world.
Q: I need a wedsite where I can ask questions about my dog’s health.?
I would like to be able to find a site that you can ask a question to a vet and be answered back. Does anyone know of a website where I might find this and I also need to do research on my dog’s health. She recently passed away and we really don’t know why. I have all her chart with all the lab work but I don’t understand it all.
A: I am sorry about your dog. It’s really hard to lose them because they are like one of the family but it could be so many different things. I mean thousands. They are just like people. . . . somethings just things happened. If you really want to know about her health or why she passed on your vet should be able to explain it the best because he should have known what was going on. If perhaps he doesn’t, then I would take all the files to another vet there. It’s a lot eaiser for them to look at them, and help you while they can talk one on one with you than you trying to just find it somewhere online.
If you still insist on finding it online be VERY careful, alot of sites look like they are very knowlegeable but some really don’t know what they are talking about.
Good luck!
Q: ive got some health questions bout my dog, where can i get answers for free?
A: askthevet.com
sometimes it takes awhile for them to answer, but they eventually do.
If it is an immediate answer you need call a local vet they will usually answer your questions.
Good luck.
Q: A few questions about dog health? (Grooming & Food)?
I will hopefully be a dog-owner within the next few months! The only issue is, I’ve been looking into some things and have some questions. If you don’t know the answer to all, it’s okay. Just answer the ones you know! Thanks!
First off, I really want my dog to be fed good food as to not result in vet bills later. But all the foods I’ve been looking into will be too expensive. I’m looking into breeds anywhere from 30-60lbs, and so far I’m looking into breeds like American Pit Bull Terrier and Labrador Retriever, so that’ll give you an estimate of size. That’s why it’s so expensive to feed. So, can I buy a cheaper brand of dog food and add things in to make it healthy? Like fresh vegetables, some chicken broth, etc. Will that result in the same nutricion value? I’d hate to feed my dog by-product, but if adding those things in will replace it, then I wouldn’t feel so bad. Any other suggestions for cheap, healthy feeding??
Also, I will take most grooming responsibilities.
I’ve been looking into nail trimmers and I know PediPaws sucks, so what do you suggest? Would using nail clippers and a filer have the same effect? I could probably get my hands on some Quick-Stop, in case an accident happens. Or is it too risky?
How many times should you clean a dog’s ears and brush their teeth? I heard you should brush their teeth every day, but that doesn’t seem right. And I have no clue about how many times to clean a dog’s ears. Should you just do it when you give them a bath? Or more often?
Any other tips you think will be helpful will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I know how to do nails and brush teeth and what to do, I’m just asking on how many times I should and which is preferable with nails-clippers or the dremmel?
thanks
A: For food cost: http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=costfactors It is broken down to exactly how much each food cost you in the long run.
If you cant feed great food, thats fine, but you can still feed decent food that allow your dog to thrive.
I can get 15lbs of Taste of the wild for 25 dollars, which for grainless is fantastic.
And if money is still an issue, look into raw feeding.
It is cheaper. The trick is to stay at or under a dollar per pound.
Ordering wholesale helps, but isnt needed. It is really good to have a freezer too to dedicate to the food although with one dog, a small freezer section should hold for a weeks worth of food.
If you are looking for a dog that weighs anywhere from 50 to 90lbs on average you are looking at feeding: 1 to 1.8lbs for 2 percent.
If you are interested: http://www.bigdogsporch.com can help you.
Q: Ants attacking my dog and filling my house. dog health issues?
Dog Health Questions
Jess is apparently in extreme pain due to invasion of ants…she’s constantly licking and scartching her nose, stopping to shove her face on the floor to rub it, or freaking out and rolling around trying to rub her nose.
Yeah, I believe there’s an ant still stuck in her mouth stinging her…
I really have no way to help her and I feel that it’s a repeat of when she was sniffing in a bush and tried to eat a bee
the bee bit her tounge, and her tounge swelled up so bad we had to take her to a vet or it’d block her windpipe… -_-
And my parents are at a fucking concert and I can’t drive, so if it’s a repeat, I have no way of helping her…
A: I don’t get the question here.
If you’re asking if it’s bad for your dog that their are ants biting her, it could be. It really depends if she gets an allergic reaction, just like anything else, including bee stings. Also, you kinda have the bees and ants mixed up. Ants normally don’t sting, they bite. Bees normally don’t bite, they sting.
Your best bet is to wait and see what happens, or call a vet and ask for the advice you’re looking for (99 percent chance they’ll tell you what I did).
Q: Am I the only one who thinks coming here and asking serious health questions about dogs is rediculous?
I can see asking about someones “OPINION” or “ADVICE”… but to come here and ask serious questions about dogs is just beyond my comprehension.
Jessayyy…
And that’s not eveen an answer.
A: Yeah of course it is. I just keep hoping and really believe that all of them are trolls. I just can’t see leaving a mutilated dog in the road after being hit by a car or a dog that is bleeding out all different kinds of orifices and their first thought is coming on a computer. I have a little more faith in the human race… (lol, though it doesn’t say a whole lot about them if they’re doing it for some kind of joke or for whatever reason they do it either)!!!
