Q: If any, is there a dog breed with the most health issues?
Any purebreds that have the most health issues? I just want to know because it got me curious when people asked if there are any dog breeds with LESS health issues. So I wonder which had the MOST.
Thank you in advance!
Great Danes, and English Bulldogs?
If to be mistaken, dont Golden Retrievers have some health issues too?
A: English Bulls win, followed by Dobermans, Irish Setters, and Dalmations, who experience a high number of genetic defects. (Obviously poorly bred dogs have much more problems than those from a quality breeding program!) Generally speaking, giant breeds like Great Dane, St Bernard, and Neopolitan Mastiffs would come next, as they have a much shorter life expectancy and are prone to joint, gastric, and heart diseases. And yes, Goldens are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as allergies. Again, well bred dogs are healthier by far than puppy mill dogs, so where you get your dog is as important as what dog you get.
Q: what type of dog has the least health issues?
i want a dog thats cute and has the least health issues. i was thinking about an australian shepherd but i looked them up and they have alo. ecspesially epilepsy. i dont want it to small. like medium size.
A: Don’t listen to the first two posters, they are spewing lies and myths. Mongrels are just as vulnerable to genetic ailments, if not more so, than purebreds. That “genetic diversity” they talk about, can actually make genetic illnesses pop up even more so, and since mongrel breeders never health test, they are unhealthier than a reputably bred purebred.
I’d say one from a reputable breeder who health tests and shows/works their dogs. Not breed specific.
Q: Will dewormer work on a very , very old dog with many health issues?
He is not ours and I have suggested putting him down, but owner refuses. Everyone is recovering from loss of income so no extra money for vets and we have 2 healthy dogs. The old dog has taken over their living area and bedding.
A: Wormers work on ANY dog….they kill worms….period.
& one type will NOT kill all species of worms.
Responsible adults worm dogs regularly=twice yearly is fine.
Q: should I get ACL surgery on an 11 year old dog with other health issues?
the other health issues are: borderline cushing’s disease, reduced kidney function, and copper storage disease (liver)….PLEASE, any help would be so appreciated!!! Is it time to let her go?
A: I would try medication,glucosamine/chondroitin supplements and rest first. The vet can also apply a splint or brace. You wouldn’t want to have the surgery be a success only to have her kidneys shut down from the anesthesia. I have had two large, older dogs with torn ACLS and they healed just fine with the aforementioned treatments.
Q: Ants attacking my dog and filling my house. dog health issues?
Dog Health Questions
Jess is apparently in extreme pain due to invasion of ants…she’s constantly licking and scartching her nose, stopping to shove her face on the floor to rub it, or freaking out and rolling around trying to rub her nose.
Yeah, I believe there’s an ant still stuck in her mouth stinging her…
I really have no way to help her and I feel that it’s a repeat of when she was sniffing in a bush and tried to eat a bee
the bee bit her tounge, and her tounge swelled up so bad we had to take her to a vet or it’d block her windpipe… -_-
And my parents are at a fucking concert and I can’t drive, so if it’s a repeat, I have no way of helping her…
A: I don’t get the question here.
If you’re asking if it’s bad for your dog that their are ants biting her, it could be. It really depends if she gets an allergic reaction, just like anything else, including bee stings. Also, you kinda have the bees and ants mixed up. Ants normally don’t sting, they bite. Bees normally don’t bite, they sting.
Your best bet is to wait and see what happens, or call a vet and ask for the advice you’re looking for (99 percent chance they’ll tell you what I did).
Q: what kind of health issues could cause a dog to not hold weight?
My 3 year old German Shepherd female won’t hold weight. She has no other symptoms just won’t hold weight. Some foods will bulk her up for a short while but then she drops it all. I’m looking for suggestions of test or heath issues to look into more with my vet.
A: worms, intestinal bacteria, internal problems, disease of an organ, cancer, The vet can do a blood panel to help figure this out it is not very expensive usually about 120-160 …Good luck
You don’t say what foods you have tried but check out recall lists and keep the dog off things like soy..gluten. corn meal..he may have digestive troubles also..Try wellness, Innova something along those lines if you haven’t
Q: vet dog health issues?
hi i dont know if my dog has either color dilution alopecia where she is a blue chihuahua or if its fleas or if its a thyroid prob.I was wondering on thyroid because she is 10 months old but she is the only overweight of my dogs but she is losing some hair and she is the only one with like a flat back.
A: Deffinately take to a vet and have her thyroid checked. If it is something else this will eliminate the guessing.
Good Luck and don’t wait too long
Q: Is there a dog similar to a Boxer but that doesn’t drool or have the inherent health issues?
Is there a dog (mixed or pure) that is similar to a Boxer but that doesn’t have the inherent health issues or the drooling issue? I specifically like the personality, size, coat (short and low shedding) and general look of the boxer.
A: The Information you will find on any breed will tell you about genetic health issues of each particular breed.
If however you purchase a purebred from a responsible reputable breeder, you will be less likely to have issues if any at all.
Professional breeders breed to better the breed, which means in your case of being interested in medical issues, that they strive to to have the best possible pups with no genetic health issues.
When choosing a pup, whatever the breed, ask for copies of all the required breed health testing and make sure the Dam and Sire have both been cleared on them.
If you are interested in the “boxer” I would suggest you do more research.
Yes boxers have short coats but they shed no less than any other breed. They shed a small a bit on a regular basis but during season changes they shed quite a bit.
If you got a boxer from a reputable breeder you will not have any problem with drooling. The reason that some boxers drool is that their “flutes” (jowls) are too long and not padded very well or that their jaw structure was not has it should have been. I have never had a boxer that drooled and honestly have never seen one that did.
If deciding on a mixed breed there is no guarantee of what you get as the pup matures in adulthood for any characteristics. There is nothing wrong with wanting a mixed breed, but it would be best to find one at a shelter rather than helping byb’s fill there pockets, and there are many mixed breeds looking for loving homes stuck in shelters. You could also look into boxer rescues for purebred and mixed breed boxers. They have boxers of all ages.
The key to finding the right breed and pup/dog is through extensive research. That way you will be happy and the pup will not end up being re-homed or in a shelter any time within its lifetime.
Q: My dog has health issues can u help?
My italian greyhound Chloe, is six years old. Ever science today she had gurgling noises coming from her tummy. It kind of sounds like water running thru. Other than that she is totally fine and acting like her normal self. I don’t know what it is but i really want to find out! Please help!!!
A: Gut sounds are normal in dogs. In fact, I’d be concerned if you didn’t hear them. She might be hungry or have a minor upset but since she’s acting normal, I wouldn’t worry much about it.
Q: Dog Health Issues Please help me?
my chiwawa has this weird dark pinkish wart on her bottom lip. She isn’t in any pain. My dad said that its nothing i need some more advice. Should i take her to the vet?
my dog is 4yrs old she had this wart like thing for about 3 or 4 month now. I am pretty sure it isnt going bigger. i called a vet and they said it could be a lack of sex, the food that she eats, or something else. Thank you all for your help. I will wait 2 more month to see if it grows. If it doesnt grow i will happy and i hope its not cancer.
A: I have a chihuahua too, he gets warts all the time buts its not that big of deal, usually it will go away on its own.
Q: Older dog health issues?
We have a 10 year old German Shorthaired Pointer that we rescued a few years ago who hasn’t been herself lately. She used to sleep through the night without any problems, but lately she has been waking us up 1-3 times each night to go outside and go potty. She hasn’t really had any changes in her diet and the vet’s office ran tests on a urine sample and didn’t find any problems. Short of taking her to the vet for a whole battery of tests, does anyone have any suggestions on how to change this if it is simply a behavior problem or to figure out what might be the cause?
I forgot to mention that she is fine all day and we both work 8 hours. She hasn’t had any accidents in the house while we are at work.
A: well as you mentioned, the dog is getting to be a little old and maybe can’t help itself. I would suggest buying a crate/cage for him to stay in over night. If you were to do this you need to get one just big enough for him to stand and turn around. A dog will very very rarely use the bathroom where he stays or sleeps unless he just can’t help it. Like mentioned, you dont want a spacious crate. If its too big he will go in a corner that he can avoid.
Q: Does the fact a dog drinks a lot of water point to any health issues?
I have been advised that my partners dog seems to drink a lot of water and this could point to a health problem, probably diabetis. Is this the case?
A: Could be diabetis, failing that, it’s just thirsty in the heat!
Q: Plzz help! Are Shiba Inu, a dog breed prone to genetic disorders and health issues?
How do you know if your puppy has glacouma, hip dysplasia, cataracts? Plzz help, i am worried about my puppy, a Shiba Inu breed, getting glacouma, hip dysplasia, cataracts!!! How do you spot these symptoms in the puppy?
Are Shiba Inu’s prone to these issues?
Yea, I am very Paranoid about health and i want the best for my puppy! I am so scared if my lil precious puppy is hurt or in pain!
A: If your breeder was reputable, the parents would have been certified clear of hip problems by OFA, and the eyes would have been certified by CERF. If the breeder did these checks, your pup is not toally immune to problems, but is a whole LOT less likely to have them. Here is a good website that explains some things that run in shibas: http://www.shibas.org/images/nsca.jpg
A regular vet exam and being aware of any changes in oyur dog will help catch problems early enough to treat. Good luck!
