Q: Where can I find dog health and nutritional information on the web?
I’d like to know what’s best to feed my dog (not necessarily specific brand recommendations, but just guidelines) and get some general information about dog health.
A: www.drsfosterandsmith.com is a great site for shopping and articles, even petsmart.com or banfield.net
any major food brand website – I recommend Nutro or Royal Canin (they do a lot of research and have a fixed list of ingredients in their food, a lot of controlled things in this food as opposed to Pedigree or Purina Dog Chow)
Q: What is the best website for finding out health information for my dog?
A: I like this site, it has saved me hundreds of dollars because sometimes I have caught my Vet trying to get me to do un necessary things but since I educate myself about dog health problems I can call thier bluffs and I already know what treatments are available etc… This site is awesom and has tons of information!! Hope it helps you as much as it helps me and my dogs.

ChubbyD (Raw) Thx for the advice, i think you are right. Thank You
A: Don’t try giving her anything but water until you can talk to a vet. I had a dog with very similar symptoms once. I couldn’t figure it out. He was no where to be found, so I went out to his dog house. He had a hole dug under it, and he was in there. He wouldn’t move a bit. His tummy was real hard, and he was in pain. I couldn’t get in touch with a vet, so I had to wait until the next day. All of a sudden I looked outside and he was running all over the place and happy as could be!
Turns out that he got a hold of a chunk of braunschwieger,(sausage), and ate the wrapper and all. He wasn’t able to poop that is why he was in so much pain. His bowels were obstructed! Once he finally had a bowel movement he was OK.
I’m not saying that’s what is wrong with your dog, but if she is a chewer, you never know what she may have gotten into!
You didn’t say how old she was, or what kind of dog she is. That might help a little. I sure ain’t no vet, but I have had dogs for 40 years, and I have seen and learned a lot.
I know it’s hard to watch your dog in pain, but it could turn out to be something real simple. Until you can do something about it, just stay close to her, let her know you’re there, and keep her comfy.
Don’t try to move her if it hurts.
Good Luck! I’ll say a little prayer if that’s OK with you?
I just saw what appygirl wrote. Don’t pay attention to the ignorance of idiots. Some people can’t be blamed for their own lack of inteligence!
Q: dog health?
Bulging eyes. I need to know if there is anyone that has heard of a puppy having bulging eyes. Our vet has never heard of it and he called around and nothing. Maybe someone out there has heard of it and will help me take care of my puppy. If you need more information just e-mail. Thanks for your time
The puppy is a border collie mix. I have taken her to the vet and they checked the eye pressure ran blood work and it is all normal. They had her on steroids and it went away and it came back then they put her on the steroids for a month and now is comes and goes while on the steroids.
A: What kind of dog is it?Some dogs are bug eyed like Chihuahuas and Boston Terrier puppies.
Wow, I’m sorry. God bless your little dog. I personally never heard of that in border collies. Sorry
Q: information about health care for an adopted dog?
hi, i know there are a lot of websites with info on how to care for a dog like what ages to start vacinnating worm prevention etc but im looking at adopting a dog from a shelter where they dont know the dogs history, they know hes upto 6 months old and they gave him a c3 when he got there but thats all.is there any good websites or info what to do in these kinds of situations? Thanks
A: I adopted a 1 year old dog from a shelter 3 months ago. Maybe your shelter will be better organized and more helpful, but the one in my town was awful. They sent me home with a very sick dog (bloody diarrhea caused by parasites) and they later said they didn’t even know he was sick. I think it’s kind of hard to miss all the bloody diarrhea everywhere, but that’s just me…
Anyway, they wouldn’t even help me with any information besides what they did to him at the shelter or what his record said before they got him from another state. Therefore, if you were to adopt from a shelter like this, your best bet would be to simply take the dog to a vet you trust and let them figure out what needs to be done based strictly on the paperwork. If you don’t know any vet clinics, get advice from someone else first, don’t just go to anyone,
Good luck to you and your puppy!
Q: Dog Illnesses – What is the most common dog illness in 2007?
For more on dog illness and dog’s health go to http://www.squidoo.com/dog-illnesses. The ultimate guide to dog health has some great information for you to help keep yourr dog healthy .
I have been reading a lot about dog illnesses for a project. The above is one of the survey questions. Please take a moment to contribute. Thank you.
A: I am guessing parvo. And it could all be avoided if people would just vaccinate their dogs.
Q: who has english bull dog information?
i want to know all about english bull dogs. can some one tell me about their health problems, how to chose a good breeder etc?
A: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/bulldog.htm or akc.org then type in english bll dog
both websites have info about charcteristics, what to ask breeders, health issues, and how to locate a breeder
Q: Do you have health insurance for your dog?
I have a puppy and need some general idea of what company dog owners choose to go with and any information you would think is important for me to know.
I’m not sure if it’s worth it or not OR if it’s a must!
I really appreciate it. THANK YOU.
A: It’s a must. Sometimes it makes the difference between having your dog at home or having to have them put to sleep because you can’t afford an eight thousand pound surgery.
Which country are you in?
I’m in the UK, and I’ve always used petplan for all of my dogs (and horses)

Q: What, in addition to Pedigree, do we call a dog’s papers?
What, in addition to Pedigree, do we call a dog’s papers? You know, the additional health information regarding hip dysplaysa, etc.
A: A Pedigree is the ancestry of the dog.
Registration is listing that dog as a purebred with AKC.
Evidence of health screenings and tests are usually called certifications and would include the name of the testing and rating agency–PennHip, OFA, BAER, CERF, etc.
Vaccination history and worming history are just called history. You’d need to supply veterinary records or records of your own that include the labels of each vaccine/dewormer and the dates on which each was given.
Q: Great dog site?
do you know some really great site about dogs- training, feeding, dog health where information is FREE?
A: I was able to find these and there was lots more, but if you have some questions just drop me a line I would be happy to help, give you tips or help you find hidden information if I don’t already know it.
Q: What type of home health care should I use for my dog who has broken her jaw?
The vet sent home a little bit of antibiotics and inflammatory medicine. Can I use baby aspirin? I need to know as much information as possible on how to care for her such as food, comfort, etc. Thank-You.
A: talk to ur vet, its never a good idea to give ur dog human meds unless instructed to do so by ur vet!
Q: Breeding A dog Information?
I have a English Cocker Spaniel and I’ve kind of started to be interested in breeding. She’s two years old right now and she’s unfriendly to most other dogs she doesn’t know. That is what I’m worried about. She might be aggressive toward the male dogs. Can we fix this problem without spending a lot of money?
I also want some information on breeding a dog. Risks? Tips? I’ve become kind of interested in breeding because i know a lot of people that will give these dogs a great home. The veterinarian my dog Mya goes to told us that she should get neutered if we aren’t interested in breeding because of her health.
All help is appreciated
OK, first of all. My dog isn’t HORRIBLE. she is a little aggressive to MALES. This problem can be fixed. and Yes, i may be going to a breeding class my vet recommended. I was only trying to gather information on the risks and tips..

sorry for that double post right there. haha
A: Yes, if you don’t breed you should have your dog spayed as it eliminates the risk of several serious conditions that are more common than many realize.
If you’re interested in breeding you’ll want to do it right, which means you’ll want to ensure your dog has proper temperament and health. You’ll need her tested by the vet for any conditions prevalent in her breed, a genetic panel done to help determine if she could pass on something potentially damaging to the pups, you’ll want to have some cash saved up in the event there is a complication with pregnancy to ensure the mother and pups come out of it alright (think emergency c-section), a knowledge on canine gestation, whelping, nursing, weaning, and behavioral conditioning in puppies as well. You may have to have a kennel license to breed in your area.
Breeding even remotely responsibly entails far more work than putting a male and female together. You’re right, what if she’s aggressive toward the male? Is her problem due to a temperament flaw, or is it due to a lack of training and/or socialization? If her temperament is genetic then you should not breed her as this can easily pass on to some or all of the pups. If it’s due to training, it’s in your best interest to get that fixed whether you breed her or not.
You’ll want the stud checked in a similar fashion and you’ll want his temperament to be easy and well-known to avoid possible injury to your own dog as well as further avoiding passing on less than savory temperaments or possible health problems to future owners of these pups, many of whom you may know personally.
Breeding can be very spendy, so before you decide you want to find a breeding mentor through the AKC and discuss it thoroughly. All the precautions may seem preposterous but they’re taken for a reason, as much for the safety and integrity of the dogs as for the breeders and buyers. Odds are likely that a pregnancy will go off without a hitch, but you want a financial cushion for that “just in case” scenario. There’s at least 5 questions a day about pregnancy and whelping complications on Yahoo Answers so while complications are uncommon in dogs, they can and do happen.
Before you breed educate yourself as thoroughly as possible on breeding ethics and practices and why those practices ought to be followed.
Q: Dog types with the least amount of health issues?
I have been looking online for information about dogs, and while I know all dogs with have health problems eventually, I’m having trouble finding out which ones are most likely to have the LEAST amount of problems.
I had a wonderful beagle who lived 9 wonderful years and the only issues she had was lyme disease (which really didn’t effect her til her last few months). I don’t think I could care for another beagle.
The type doesn’t matter, large, small, long hair, short hair… just one that I won’t have to worry so much about (healthwise).
Any information is greatly appreciated =)
A: All purebred dogs have the *possibility* of carrying certain genetic faults–if they are not bred by responsible breeders who carefully test their dogs to make sure they don’t carry those diseases.
While many people say that mutts are healthier, this is not always true. With a mutt, generally nothing is known about the parents that bred them, so they may carry hidden genetic faults. With a shelter dog, long-term health is an unknown, but they may live long & healthy lives with no problems. A carefully chosen breeder will have tested for problems. Dogs from pet stores or back-yard breeders will almost certainly have health problems.
