Q: Dogs Vomiting???
My 18month Golden Retriever has never been unwell until now and she is a normal weight. A few days ago she threw up a few times and then the next day only once. I then thought it was all ok and maybe she just had something in her throat. (She has lots of toys and bones) Then my 14yr sheltie threw up tonight but it was just looked like spit. I’m worried they might both have something, and was wondering if anyone has had this happened to their two dogs and what they did.
(The vet is closed at the moment)
A: Staying hydrated is important and you can take their temp.
Pinch their skin around the neck a few times , if it bounces back well, they are hydrated.
a temp would mean something is up.
Q: Does vomiting usually procede a seizure in dogs?
I am wondering because my dog vomited and then started shaking and had a blank stare. She is now blessedly sleeping and I plan on contacting my vet in the morning, I am just curious.
nope just vomited the once. She has been drinking all day.
A: No, that’s very strange- I think that there must be an underlying problem which caused both the seizure and the vomiting.
Seizures aren’t usually a huge disaster for dogs (my dog had them for a few years before she died at age 15), but if I were you I’d call the emergency vet now just to be safe and see if they think she needs to come in. My dog never vomited with the seizure.
Q: my dogs vomit is yellow and very strong sour smelling he has been vomiting for days now what could be wrong?
I haven’t changed anything in his diet and it just is soo nasty the smell yuck…his beard and hair smell and i wash him of but it still smells. What could be wrong with him?
A: Take him to the vet immediately, he can die from dehydration. Good Luck.
Q: Both my dogs have diarrhea and vomiting. Is there something that is contagious? They became sick within 24 hr?
I just drove 1300 miles with my two Golden Retrievers. The 12 year old came down with vomiting and diarrhea the day of our arrival. After an ER visit due to dehydration, he is doing better but now the 1 year old has it. Do dogs catch stomach “bugs”?
A: Dogs can catch ’stomach bugs’ in a way. The only way of knowing this is by testing. It sounds like the drive may have not helped. Stress can also bring this kind of thing on. Make sure you starve the other for 24 hours and keep up his fluids as much as possible, and take him straight to a vet if your worried.
Q: Why would anyone recommend peroxide to induce vomiting in dogs?
It is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of! Peroxide would burn the throat and eat away at the stomach wall inside a dog.
Why do people keep recommending stupid things ? Do you want people to kill their dogs?
Why? Why? Why?
Salt water – induces vomiting – completely natural and safe
A: i wood not drank it so thar for nether will my dogs my pore baby gurl just past from parvo and it hurts and i dont no i do no i wood not tell some one to do that if i did not no
Q: My dogs is vomiting brown liquid?
My dog is 7 years old (black lab & spaniel mix) He just started vomiting dark brown liquid about 1 – 3 times a day. He never eats much food and doesn’t seem to be eating any differently than normal. Right before he gets sick he will start to whine then it happens and he goes back to his regular business. Could it be his food? I haven’t change it recently. Is there anything I can give him over the counter?
A: Take the dog to the vet, dark brown fluid is a sign of blood in the stomach. There are several causes for this, a piece of a bone perforating the stomach, an ulcer, a tear from something he chewed on, or even some form of parasite. At 7 this isn’t normal and for him to whimper before vomiting sounds like he may have a perf and a vet needs to scope his stomach.
Q: Why is hydrogen peroxide safe for inducing vomiting in dogs and cats, but not for humans?
A: it doesnt always cause that gag reflex in humans like in animals and here’s what happens if it stays in the stomach…
Swallowing hydrogen peroxide solutions is particularly dangerous, as decomposition in the stomach releases large quantities of gas (10 times the volume of a 3% solution) leading to internal bleeding. Inhaling over 10% can cause severe pulmonary irritation.
Q: My dog ate lots of chocolate, is it safe to induce vomiting in dogs with hydrogen peroxide?
A: Yes, you can use hydrogen peroxide: 1 tsp for each 10 lbs of body weight. It is extremely important to contact the vet immediately, since the consumption of chocolate, which contains theobromine, can be fatal to a dog, especially dark chocolate (i.e., baker’s chocolate). The outcome depends on the size of the dog and the amount and type of chocolate consumed. Vomiting should be induced within 4-6 hours of consumption. If more time has elapsed, use activated charcoal, which is available from your pharmacy. ( Note: It is not the kind you use in a BarBQ).
Q: Can hydrogen peroxide induce vomiting in dogs?
I’ve heard this is a good trick if your dog eats a no-no.
A: You wouldn’t drink hydrogen peroxide – so why would you give it to a dog or any living thing. If the dog eats a no-no take it to a vet.
Q: Any way to soothe my dogs stomach or stop him from vomiting?
i have an italian greyhound, 7 yrs old, very healthy but has been vomiting once or twice a day for the past 5 days. took him to the vet, no parasites, blood work and urine fine. doctor recommended royal canin HE. he threw it up. tried a twelve hour fast. no improvement. now just giving a few kernels of his usual dry food several times a day. any recommendations? i know he is starving!
A: hi…my first question would be ~ r u giving him people food. the reason i ask is because the obedience trainer we when to, told us to use small pieces of chicken weiners for training. we had lots of problems with my springer. once we took those weiners away, she improved. she has a very senstive tummy and we can only give her dry food (3 small meals a day) and only the white milk bone cookies. no rawhides or real bones. she is doin fine right now. to stop the vomiting, i would suggest rice for now until her tummy settles down.
Q: How does hydrogen peroxide induce vomiting in dogs?
A: Can you imagine swallowing hydrogen peroxide? If a vet needs to pump a dog’s stomach you don’t just given them hydrogen peroxide. At the Animal Hospital I work at we allow the dog to drink as much milk as it wants (most dog’s will drink over 1 L because it is a treat to them). Once they refuse to drink anymore milk the Vet then gives them a shot (this makes them queasy). We then move the back and the vet forces the dog to drink the hydrogen peroxide (using a giant syringe). The dog will then start to throw up and and given more hydrogen peroxide until the vet is satisfied that there is nothing left in the dog’s stomach. I know this process sounds a little mean, but it is only used when needed. I have only helped do this when a dog has eaten a whole lot of rat poisoning (owner’s rent a cottage and bring up the dog, but the owner of the cottage forgets to tell them that he/she put out rat poisoning).
Q: my dogs been vomiting bile for 4 days now, what could it be? i cant affford to take her to the vet.?
she hasnt eaten and hardly drank in days, and can barely walk now. just when she seems that she making a turn around she vomits again. she is an 11 yr old golden retriever.
A: Can i put it this way:
Can you afford NOT to take it to the vet? You won’t get a medical answer on YA to that question – even from the vets on here. She needs a proper check up
EDIT 5 mins,
Sorry if my answer sounded calous, but she’s 11 yrs old and presumably you’ve been together a long time – spare a moment to realise how much she means to you. You need to try harder to find the cash.
Q: Why do dogs vomit on carpet only?
My dog recently got stomach issues and start vomiting in the house. But it seems she always prefers to vomit on the carpet instead on a tile floor. Why do dogs do that?
A: Because they know your gonna have to go
through trouble to clean it up
mine does the same thing
just something i found’
1. You need to think like a dog. When you need to hurl, you want something to hang on to. A carpet provides more support than a slippery floor.
2. Usually, homes have more carpeted area than floors, so by random chance they’ll hit the carpets more often.
3. When they mess up the carpet it is much more traumatic and you remember it more than when they create an easy mess.
Every pet I’ve ever had has at one time or another had an accident and yes, usually in the worst places.
Q: Is vomiting a common side effect in dogs that have just gotten a bordetella vaccine shot?
My 6-year old female boston terrier got a bordetella vaccine shot yesterday. She has started throwing up tonite …3 times since dinner.
My 6-year old female boston terrier got a bordetella vaccine shot yesterday. She started throwing up tonite …3 times since dinner.
She was injected. Was also given an “ear flush” Malaseb to clear up ear otitis
A: I have used bordetella vaccines on all my dogs, I haven’t had any problems. Call your vet, they don’t charge for a phone call.
Q: My dog is vomiting at the exact same time everyday. What could be the cause?
Every morning I am awakened by my dog vomiting. It looks just like a bunch of spit. Other than that he does not show any other symptoms of being sick. Has anybody experienced this before?
A: Take him to the vet and discuss this problem, he’ll be able to tell you the exact reason. Plus, always feed the dog light food at night.
