Q: what is the best site for free dog symptom checking?
our dog bandit has different symptoms…On occasion. He recently sat half day, and he was shaking, and did not have an appetite. He has also ,afew times past, temporarily lost the use of his back legs, and defecated on the floor. He got better in about 45 minutes, to where he could walk again. We would like to know if this is a precursor to a serious problem. He goes to the vet tommor, so…Bandit is about 9 years old, and otherwise is fine.

A: He may have had a small seizure. I would just wait and ask your vet when you take him. do not always beleive everything you read on the internet. You may find a site that will suggest an illness that is not even a possibility and then you get over concerned for nothing

Q: Is my dog just getting older or could this be a symptom of something else?
My dog is a 9 1/2 year old Rottweiler. Mom has been noticing that for a while she goes through short fazes where she feels very hot, her eyes are red, and she barely touches her food. Other than that, she appears to be normal, like we took her on a walk last night and she seemed to have even more energy than usual. I don’t really understand but my mom thinks its just her getting older. What do you think?

A: It’s hard to tell anything by your description. Dogs should have a physical once per year even if they aren’t due for shots. When was the last time your dog had a check up? Might be a good time for the annual physical. If there is something wrong, an early diagnosis will improve the prognosis.

ADD: Rotties can live until 15 years of age, so you could still have some good years left with your companion. Just need to take care of her properly. As dogs age they do tend to need more medical attention (just like people).

Q: What’s the symptom of ear infection for a dog?
My dogs ear smells even after I wash him, he didn’t have any exudate, should I suspect it’s an ear infection?

A: i hope this link help

Q: My dog Is bloated. a symptom of being in heat?
She is 3 yrs old and we just found her a couple of months ago. This is the first heat i’ve ever gone through with a dog. She started bleeding 3 days ago, but now her belly seems fairly swollen. I will take her to the vet this week but need some ideas to ease my mind.

A: This could be a Gastric Torsion. You must get her to the Vets NOW! NOW! NOW! (Unless she is dead already!) It really is a serious complaint and you don’t have much time!
Also get someone to phone ahead to let them know what to expect. It really is very, very serious!

Q: Is this the symptom of a stroke in my dog?
I have been up since 4 am but mom has been up since 1am. She said he started off restless, where he walks around like he can’t get comfortable. She didn’t think anything of it because sometimes he does that ever since we got him 6 years ago.
But then she said he laid down to sleep and after a while he rolled onto his side. He started to shake and and pant. He then got up and started to walk around and into things like he is disoriented, which woke my sister and me up. He was crying and just wanted to walk around. He finally stopped and they are sitting with him. We put a call into my vet and he said it sounds like it could be a stroke and bring him in first thing in the morning. I don’t keep asprin in the house so I can’t give him any. Unfortunatly there are no 24 hour vet services in my area.

Is there anything else I can give him? Does it sound like a stroke to you?

A: If your vet recommended you to give him aspirin the reason may be that he thought it might be a clot blocking one of the veins in his brain causing stroke. Aspirin helps to dilute blood and prevent it to get clotted. You should watch him carefully.
The symptoms below are the symptoms of a stroke according to the brain regions. One group of symptoms may match with your dog’s condition:

1 group:

Change in mental alertness
Loss of certain eye reflexes on the side opposite the brain damage
Loss of sensation of the nose on the side opposite the brain damage
Weakness on the side opposite the brain damage
Circling towards the side of the brain damage
Drunken gait
Head pressing
Seizures

2.group

Crossed eyes
Head tilt or turn towards the side of the brain damage
Postural defects
Loss of certain eye reflexes on the side opposite the brain damage
Back and forth eye movements

3.group

Drunken gait
Loss of certain eye reflexes on the side of the brain damage
Head twisted backwards or upward
Measuring steps incorrectly
Tremors during intended actions
Back and forth eye movements
Head tilt
Rigid neck and body

4.group

Head and neck pain
Problems with the reflexes of the head and face
Altered states of consciousness
Weakness in all four legs
Postural defects
Head tilt and back and forth eye movements

If your vet recommended to find some aspirin please try to do so because if his condition caused by stroke the only thing you can do at home is to give this to your dog in the dosage recommended by your vet.

In case of epilepsy you should take him to a dim, quiet place since most of the seizures are triggered by sudden loud noises and powerful light. So lay him in a quiet place and check his mouth to make sure that his tongue is not blocking his respiration. And watch him closely.

Good luck

Q: My dog keeps biting at the inside of his right, hind leg, what is this a symptom of?
The inside of his hind leg has been scratched by my dog so that all of the fur is gone. The skin is this dark red color. It is like he has this itch on the inside of his leg. What is the cause of this? Is it the lack of nutrition?

A: Take the dog to the vet for a diagnosis and treatment before it gets worse.

Q: is the yeast extract the same as yeast? does the yeast extract cause dog’s allergie symptom?
i was going to switch my dog from EVO to orijen, but then i found out they put yeast extract in their dog food.so i was wondering if the yeast extract will cause allergies as yeast

A: If your dog is allergic to yeast, then yes, he’ll be allergic to yeast extract.

You might look into feeding the raw diet (also known as BARF*), because it generally contains no grains and doesn’t cause allergic reactions in most dogs.

*Bones and Raw Food …or…Biologically Appropriate Raw Food

We’ve been feeding our dogs this diet for five years and their health is excellent and no more allergies. (We feed a commercially prepared frozen brand, Primal.)

Q: Dog symptom help! help!?
Our tibetan spaniel mix has had really really horrible breath , not like his normal breath and yesterday he threw up yellowish foam and one morning he was very hot compared to our other dog what do u think is wrong! we wanted to know before we take him to the vet

A: We cannot diagnose your dog over the Internet. We are not vets. You need to take him in. If he’s that hot, he could have a fever, which could be caused by an Infection. The only way you will know what’s going on, is to have a vet take a look at him.

Q: My dog has whipworm. What has been your dogs symptoms?
I found out my dog has whipworm. He is being treated right now. What kind of symptoms has your dog had, while having whipworm?

A: Usually we see bloody diarrhea, mucus in stools, anemia, weakness, weight loss (in severe cases) and inflamed intestines.

Q: is shaking a symptom of pregnancy for a dog?
its a maltese dog and she is 5 but she has had a liter before when she was 2 and i dont remember her shaking is that ok?

A: It would be best to call your breed mentor. If you can’t get ahold of the breed mentor, but certainly you have his/her cell phone #, give your vet a call. Of course you had an ultrasound done so you know how many pups to expect, and of course she’s had all health and genetic testing done, as well as obtaining her breed championship.

Q: What is the longest a golf ball can stay in a dog without the dog showing symptoms?
Is there any possibility that a dog could swallow a golf ball a week ago and just be showing symptoms now?
Just to add details, I called the vet when it happened, who gave symptoms to look for. Symptoms did not start occurring until a week later. Dog was then taken to the vet who removed the ball. The question was to determine if it could have been the same golf ball from a week ago, or potentially a different ball from just a couple days ago.

A: If it’s a good-sized dog, yes.

Get your dog to the vet asap.

EDIT — *another* golf ball? I think you need to keep your dogs and your golf balls separate!

Q: Can A dog Show Symptoms of Kennel Cough 2 weeks after boarding?
My dog who is 6 is showing signs of kennel cough but only started showing symptoms a couple of days ago. He was in boarding for about a week and has had the vaccine. Do symptoms take this long to show up? He has had it before and I noticed the symptoms within a couple of days. He has a cough that makes him almost chock and vomit. Or does this sound like a cold?

A: Thats kennel cough, (as a dog trainer/shower I know it well!) and the symptoms CAN take that long and just be building up.

Q: Unusually hyper dog…bad symptom or normal?
My beagle is normally quite calm, but today (for the entire time I’ve been home, about half an hour) she’s been totally hyper, running around the house, and her heartbeat is unusually fast. Bad symptom or normal?

A: Dogs normally do this when they havent gotten any exercise. A beagle is a working dog and needs to be ran or walked alot. He’s just burning off the energy that he has.

Q: Question about dog symptom….?
I have a Maltese Poodle, female, about 9 months old. She has watery eyes and a wet cough. She’s not coughing a lot. The last cough was about 3 hrs ago. However, she is coughing enough for me to worry. Besides these symptoms she is happy, playful, engertic, and still eats like normal. She did visit a pet store about 14 days ago or so.

I believe she has allegeries. What do you think? How can I help her w/ her allegeries before a vet visit? (It is the weekend after all.)

A: It sounds like she more than likely has kennel cough, since you visited a pet store with her 2 weeks ago. Has she had the Bordatella vaccine? If not, I would get her to the Vet Monday morning to have her checked. A cough can be anything from Kennel Cough, to Heartworms, to a Heart (Cardio) problem. Get her checked out by a Vet.

Q: My dog is currently teething and today one of her cheeks swelled up is this a symptom?

A: It could just be that her teeth are coming in and irritating her cheeks…but I would bring her to a vet just to be sure it isn’t worse.
