Q: Dog Sneezing?
I’ve had my 2 y/o Golden Retriever for 6 months. He has always scratched and bit some as if he has allergies. The doctoir says whatever the allergy is, it is slight. Ten days ago I switched my dog from Science Diet to Solid God “Barking at the Moon”–an all natural food. My dog loves it. However, he has been sneezing since I switched foods. I’m not sure if the timing of the sneezing is coincidental or not. What do you think?
A: I have a golden retriever and let me tell you this is all normal. I feed science diet – never heard of the other. My dog sneezes when he gets up from laying, and chews on herself and scratches quite a bit. They are notorious for dry skin, and ear infections. You have to clean their ears very frequently with a mixture of vinegar and rubbing alcohol. My dog also has bad allergies in the summer months and she gets 2 benadryl twice a day. You should ask your doctor about this. If my dog does not have them she will chew the fur right off of her. Goldens are prone to allergies and ear infections, it is just the breed. I would not worry about the sneezing. You could try going back to science diet to see if it stops.
Q: dog sneezing??
I got my 2 y/o 8 lbs dog spayed and all her shots about a week ago and since she has been home she has not stoped sneezing. There seems to be nothing else wrong with her. She never has sneezed like this before. Is it just a cold or something more. Please help.
A: Are you using a new brand of air freshener or anything? If so, stop using them. If not, take her to the vet.
Q: Dog sneezing?
My dog Sneezes a lot when he is playing with our other dog..anyone else have that? its pretty funny
A: Yes!! Her snout sometimes gets stuck sideways! Both of my dogs do this, and both of their snouts get stuck! I feel bad when it happens, but it looks so funny.
Q: Why is my dog sneezing a lot?
I have a dog that has been currently sneezing non stop. I think she may be allergic to something but what can she be allergic to? She has been sneezing constantly and hasnt been getting a lot of sleep and is less active. What could be the problem?
A: Dogs can be allergic to almost anything, just like people. It could be grass, pollen, something in your house, an ingredient in her food, etc. The only way to know for sure is to have an allergy test done. It’s kind of expensive but then you’ll know exactly how to treat it. The vet will take blood and send it into a lab for analysis.
If you don’t want to do the test, the vet may be able to prescribe something to give her some relief but it’s usually only temporary.
Q: Can a dog sneezing on my face give me rabies?
I recently got a dog from a friend and it sneezed on my face back in the first week of january. Am i at risk of having rabies? She says that the dog got the rabies shot when she was a puppy. Please let me know i am an extreme worry wart. Thanks.
A: There is no risk of rabies from that.
There is almost no risk of rabies from dogs in civilized areas, as most of the pets are vaccinated, and the others have nobody to catch rabies from.
Further, government agencies keep a lookout for rabies and other infectious diseases in wild animals, and it gets announced in the news when they find a case; and of course they take action then to eliminate any rabies from the area.
Q: Why is my dog sneezing so much?
My dog is sneezing alot lately inside our house and outside too. He had just woke up. He sneezed probably 60 times! Its not too seroius, just a litle wierd. i dont think he has allergies but if he does, what could he be allergic to?
A: We have a dog in the family who is allergic to grass. Yes, I know that’s funny (believe me, I laugh at my brother too for it) but the vet was able to determine what the dog was allergic to. If you’re able, watch for when he is having the worst of the sneezing fits. You may be able to find out what was the root of the trouble that way. I would also talk to your vet. He or she may be able to narrow things down a lot. Good luck!
Q: Why is my 7 year old male maltese sneezing and not eating his dog food?
PLEASE HELP!
Why is my 7 year old male maltese dog sneezing and sleeping. he isn’t eating his regular food but will eat some human food like cereals
A: Check his nose. If it isnt moist as usual it is probably a stuffy nose and can go away with alot of fluid and rest. if the dog isnt acting normal take it to the vet. the shot is probably no more than 50 if the dog just has a viral infection.
Q: What do i do if my dog is sneezing alot?
My dog is a 12 week old chihuahua and she started sneezing alot today. Our other dog who is a german shepherd mix started sneezing a couple days ago, so could she have caught something from him? If so, whats a good way to treat it?
A: They could have a cold — watch for a green gunky nose or not eating which would mean get to the vet right away.
More likely though, they have seasonal allergies, just like you and me get. Pollen bothers us all. I have dogs that get itchy and get runny eyes right around the time mine do.
Benadryl in the proper dosage (ask your vet for how much to give your size dog) usually helps. Do not give a small dog benadryl without getting the proper dosage information, as they are so small you could easily overdose him.
Q: How to make my dog stop sneezing?
My dog has been sneezing every day for a year now, how do i make him stop?
A: dust your house a bit more! the only reason dogs sneeze is the same reason as us there is too much nasty dust going up our noses then getting trapped!
Q: My dog is sneezing and blood is coming out of his nose, Is this due to a foxtail?
My dog is sneezing continually and when I wipe his nose, there’s blood. after wiping his nose, he starts sneezing again and after a few minutes he stops. Is this because of a foxtail?
What should I do to fix this?
A: Classic polyp symptom. She may be sneezing because of the blood too. You do need to see a vet because there is a small possibility of a tumor or leaking blood vessel. See your vet soon, like early tomorrow in the daytime.
Q: HELP ! My dog is sneezing and crying because he inhaled a Foxtail grass seed. What to do ?
My dog is a 15 lb ( 6.8 kg ) Yorkie terrier mix. Today he started sneezing a lot and his eyes are constantly teary wet. I took him to the veterinarian and she says my dog probably has a Foxtail hay seed lodged in his nasal passage.
What should I do ? Removing it is really expensive. If we do nothing he will continue to be irritated all the time.
A: If you don’t remove the foxtail it WILL migrate, you have no choice but to have it removed. (and sooner rather than later)
This is what foxtail looks like;

Because of it’s glistening color you can spot it from a distance. The seed pod is encased with directional spines so every time the dog takes a breath the seed will migrate in a little farther.
Q: Dog sneezing for the past 2 days?
My dog has been sneezing every 5 or 10 minutes for the past two days.
I am worried about what the cause is. Any ideas?
A: It could possibly be a foreign object in the nose. In our area, there is a problem with foxtails, which are a type of grass seed that can get caught in paws, ears and noses. My dogs have picked them up before and the classic symptom is sneezing attacks lasting several minutes.
Take the dog to the vet.
Q: my dog is conjested and sneezing?
my 9 month old dog is sneezing and a little conjested. we had him at the shelter last weekend to meet another dog so i’m afraid he cought something. he’s not coughing at all and his movements are normal.
A: I agree that it could be kennel cough. Take him to the vet. They should be treated kennel cough every 6 months as a preventative…which is the nasal drops Bordatella.
Q: Why does my dog keep sneezing?
My dog has been sneezing continuously for the past 3 days.
It doesn’t seem normal because the sneezing happens continuously about every 10-20 minutes and it would be one sneeze after another. This has never happened before and he is about 10 months old.
Could he be sick?
A: He might have allergies. My dog gets allergies every allergy season and sneezes a lot. I suggest taking him to the vets just incase.
Q: Have you ever heard of reverse sneezing? and would you take your dog in if you thought it had it?
My dog is reverse sneezing i think. Should i take him in to get it checked out, when they are not sure what it is; what causes it; and if they can fix it?
A: This is very common. You can try gently placing your fingertips over his/her nose holes. This forces the dog to open his mouth to breathe and it usually stops the reverse sneezing. It’s not serious, but it does sound bad when it’s happening. If it goes on for a long time or several times a day, then a trip to the vet is in order. My old dachshund used to do this and it scared him when it happened, almost like he was choking, but when I would cover his nose, he would stop.
