Q: How can I help my dad who has mental health problems?
My parents have been married for years but have always had problems together. They just were completley different people I guess and got married very young. For the most part though they always seemed very happy and content with their lives.
I think that my dad might have some serious mental health problems. I haven’t talked to him about it yet but even if I do he probably won’t listen to me.I think he may be Bipolar. The reason is because he has a lot of the symptoms and it ran in his mother’s side of the family.I know some of his aunts and uncles had it as well. And since it is a genetic thing I think he needs to get some help.He used to be a very funny guy, always made me laugh and smile. Now,I just want him to move it and leave everyone alone sometimes. He acts depressed one minute and can become the happiest person alive the next. Not to mention the fact that he was always great at this job and always worked hard(at least that is what I thought) well his boss didn’t give him a very good review at work.He doesn’t do much either.(I mean I know some guys are like this but this is quite different) he watchs tv,rents a movie everyday, walks his dog, and thats really about it besides work I’d say. He’s lucky my mom hasn’t left him already.
What can I do about helping him out and finding someone to possibly dignose him? It’s quite obvious that he has some major problems,it’s completley abnormal and he has so many symptoms and is only 43 years old.
My e-mail is drangela911@yahoo.com

A: I don’t think you are the one to talk to him at this time, but you could confide in your mom..and tell her you are very worried about dad…let her talk to him, they are close, and take it from there…he might just be stressed out, and has things bothering him..ask your mom, what could you do, and what would she like you to do…maybe you could both talk to him together..He would probably be resentful at first…but in the end, probably thank you

Q: What might be causing these health problems?
Symptoms:

upper abdominal pain (right side), stomach pain & no appetite , constipation, chest pain (both sides and center – “heat pain”), back, neck, and shoulder pain, throbbing headaches, “tingly” numb sensations, bad breath, and the feeling that your throat is constricted, muscle aches and joint pain, teeth grinding, drooling while sleeping, and excessive weakness?

A parasite? What kind? A bacterial infection? A disease of some sort? My doctor thought it was stress, but did some tests for my piece of mind & found a cyst approximately 9 mm in diameter in my brain. But then he dismissed it as “congenial” and said he didn’t think it necessary to address at this time. Meanwhile, my mother is getting very upset because I keep getting worse and she says I “smell sick.” I asked the doctor if I might have contracted a parasite, as suggested by the vet since my dog was EXTREMELY ill, and he said no b/c I haven’t traveled outside the states.

Any suggestions??? I am in a LOT of pain!
I have called a psychologist, and while I should probably be seeing one for anger and stress issues, they were also concerned about the cyst the MRI found. Otherwise, yes, I am addressing “mental” issues as well. It has been basically determined, however, that the physical ailments have little to do with the emotional aspect of it all (minus causing stress over my poor health).

A: when in doubt you and your mom need to consider a 2nd oppinion. don’t feel bad about it if you do because it is your life and if you don’t take care of it no one will. you definatley have a lot of symptoms and when you mentioned the growth in your head then maybe you need to see a neurologist and have a CT. any tests that you’ve already had done belong to you. so check them out from the place they were done at and take them with you for some piece of mind and hopefully a diagnosis that makes you better.

Q: My dog has what I think is candida (spelled right?) What can I do about this?
Shes terribly itchy all the time, she has skin and fur discoloration, and she smells like a dead fish when she gets hot. She burps a lot too, though that might be cause shes a dog…
She has no health problems, no stress in her life, and for the last three months I have been feeding her “wolf king” grain free food (she dosent like the grain free foods much, and wolf king smells like oregano or something, I dont reccomend it -and neither does she!) She has no fleas, and any allergens that might have been around have been taken care of – unless she’s alergic to people I guess.
None of this has helped.
The stupid Vet has been giving her prednisone and antibiotics since she was a puppy. I almost punched him in the eye when I found out about this, because shes not sick, nor has she ever been! He said it was “good preventative maintenace”
I assume that she has candida, since she has all the symptoms and has been on steroids and antibiotics for two years.
What do I do?
OK, more info here…
I feed her yougurt, 2 tbsp of plain every day.
Wolf king was recommended for her problems. the three main ingredients are elk, venison, and sweet potatoes. it has 6 types of yougurt cultures and trace minerals and lots of veggies in it as well. (still smells like herbs though…)
I bathe her every other day or so with sulfodene (vet recommendation)
As far as the vet goes, he’s history. Ill never take her back to him. Funny thing though, I took her to a different vet friday and he wanted to give her antibiotics and prednisone. (I think most vets are like most doctors – they give you whatever the drug companies tell them to give you, regardless of the symptoms.)

A: I recommend an allergy test, that is the only way to rule them out or know exactly what bothers her. Food allergies account for only ten percent of them. So, switching food often helps little to not at all. Most are environmental…weeds, grasses, trees, house dust/mites, etc. Plus, dogs often have multiple allergies. One of mine has nearly thirty and the only sign is yeast ear infections. There are three things you can do to treat them. The best thing is reducing/eliminating exposure to the allergen(s), steroid drugs (prednisone, for example…but none are good/safe long term) or hyposensitization (builds a tolerance to the allergen). The allergy test isn’t cheap ($250), but it saves so much time, effort and money in the long run and helps the dog much quicker than trial and error. Good luck, with whatever you decide.

ETA: If you have the test done: You get a booklet when test results come back, lots of helpful information. Along w/them, you get a print out of safe foods…for that particular dog. Pay close attention to the list though, b/c one brand of dry might be safe, but that same brand’s canned might not be…depends on the ingredients. For instance, my dog can have Nature’s Recipe ‘easy-to-digest chicken meal, rice and barley’ DRY, but not the Nature’s Recipe ‘easy-to-digest chicken meal, rice and barley’ CANNED…because the canned contains potatos and carrots, both of which he’s allergic too. It’s natural to assume if a brand is safe, all of that brand’s products are…but it’s not true.

ETA: I forgot, has the vet tried anti-fungal pills, like Ketoconazole? You might want to check into that too.

Q: What tests should I do to determine if my dog has a health problem?
I have a small, 7-10 years old shih tzu who has had a fairly sudden change in behavior. She hasn’t been the most active dog, but now all she does is sleep. All day and all night. She stopped eating for about 2 weeks. She ate a little during this time but only if I hand fed her. We were going to take her to the vet, but she started eating again. I’m still worried about her because she’s sleeping all the time and doesn’t enjoy going for walks anymore. She just walks slowly and does her business. The most disturbing change is her aggression. She has attacked my husband and I each one time in the past month. With my husband she attacked his shoe, but with me she attacked my hand and bit me causing blood. I don’t mean just a bite. I mean full out attacks for at least 5 seconds. Both times involved us trying to take food from her that she found while on her walk. If there is no medical problem, this aggression may very well make her lose her home. We’re taking her to the vet but since there are no huge symptoms, what are some tests that we should get done? Money isn’t too big of an issue, but it is a little of an issue so we don’t want to just get every test known to man done.
All of these changes happened within the past 2 1/2 months.
Thanks everyone. I will look into getting these tests done. I am serious about her losing her home. I can’t have a dog attacking me for no apparent reason. We are taking her to a vet. If there’s nothing medically wrong, I see no other option. It isn’t a predictable behavior that you can use training to correct. It is very sudden and violent. If she were a big dog, I would be seriously injured instead of just having one puncture wound and a few scrapes. We have 2 other dogs but she was the last to join our family, so there are no new additions.

A: She could possibly be in pain. Arthritis? The vet could do a blood work up checking her kidneys, liver etc. Check her gums do they look pale or are they a healthy pink. Be careful not to get bitten again. She could be getting depressed. That might explain some of the sleeping and not eating. But I am not sure about the aggression. Maybe the vet can help! I hope so I would hate to see her lose her home. I have a soft spot for Shih-Tzu’s. We have a 8 1/2 year old, he can get a little aggressive too but it is when he is being protective. I hope the vet can help your girl. Good Luck!

Do you by any chance have a new pet where she might be feeling jealous?

Q: Are these symptoms dog allergies or am I just getting a cold?
A few months ago my husband and I took in a stray dog(a pomeranian) and a few days after we got him i started to get sick. I went to the dr and she put me on antibiotics but it didn’t help I went back 2 weeks later to a different dr and this one said I had fluid in my lungs, gave me a different antibiotic and steroid pills and that made me better. It also coincided with the dog’s owner coming to claim him.

Well now her it is about 2 months later and I seem to be having the same problems. We just adopted an new dog (a puggle) 3 days ago. Day one I was fine, day two i had a little stuffiness, day three I’m miserable again

My symptoms are: sneezing(like crazy), stuffy nose, watery eyes, coughing, and when I sneeze or cough my upper back and neck get really itchy(weird I know), shortness of breath, and i can hear a crackling sound when I breath(fluid in my lungs again?)

I am planning on going to the doctor again but, I don’t have health insurance so it make be a few weeks until i hae the extra money. Are there any things I can do, rather than getting ride of the dog, that can help me. I don’t want it to get as bad as last time. I lost a lot of sleep for about a month because I couldn’t breath, and here it is 4:30 am, I woke up around 3 and I can’t sleep cause every time i lay down i fell like i can’t breath.

A: Oh dear!

I would say you are VERY allergic to dogs. Try to keep the little tyke very clean (without drying his skin out), and use a damp dusting cloth and vacuum frequently.

While I normally don’t advocate medicine, you might want to keep some OTC medicine on hand to control your symptoms until you can get to the doctor.

Good luck!

Q: i need a lawyer: I bought a puppy in the internet and then he died?
Hello my name is Loreyda. I am from New York but I recently purchased a puppy over the internet from Missouri. The dog breeder seems to be very respectable and had a lot of positive feedback so I decided to purchase this puppy. The puppy was then shipped to the nearest airport where I pick him up. When I got him, he seemed to be in a healthy condition however; about a week later the puppy began to get sick. I took him to the vet but the doctors did not had a diagnostic of what was causing the dogs health problems. His health deteriorated to the point that the doctors recommended to put him to sleep, so we did so. During the whole period of his health problem, I spent over 2000 dollars and bought the dog for 690 dollars. The policies of the seller were as follow:
We work very hard to produce happy, healthy, well socialized puppies so you can be comfortable knowing you will have a loving pet for your family. All our puppies receive vaccinations, deworming, and any other veterinary care on schedule with proper documentation. All our puppies come with a written health guarantee.
We guarantee our puppies to be free from any life threatning, non-treatable communicable disease at time of purchase and we allow 3 days for the buyer to have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian. You may receive a replacement puppy if there is any life threatening, non-treatable communicable disease diagnosed by the Veterinarian at that time or if puppy dies from any communicable disease within 3 days of purchase as determined by an autopsy performed by a licensed Veterinarian. The puppy (or autopsy results from your Veterinarian) may be returned immediately to Teras Pups To Pals where you may exchange for puppy of equal or lesser value. If no puppy is available, we will replace as soon as one becomes available, no cash refunds.
Any shipping costs will be paid by purchaser. Teras Pups To Pals will not be responsible for any Veterinary costs incurred after purchase of any puppy. Please understand we make no claim or guarantee as to the disposition, size, color, compatibility, physical conformation, or breeding ability of any puppy at maturity. Our puppies sole purpose is as a household pet. http://teraspupstopals.com/Policies.php

In addition, The puppy came with an AKC registration paper and a health certificate however he was not vaccinated and she stated that all puppies were to receive vaccinations and deworming as stated in the policies above. My doctor stated that most likely the dog came from a puppy mill, which explains why someone will ship a dog without proper vaccinations. The dog died and the doctors couldn’t find what was causing the problem, however he show symptoms of pneumonia, anemia and the common cold, he also had neurological symptoms. Anyway, I will like to know if there is any possible way that I can get a refund, the vets cost or maybe a new puppy, since he died a month after he purchased him. I am not quite familiar with Missouri animal laws but in New York the buyer is entitled to compensation. Is there anything worth considering here?

A: Missouri has NO PUPPY LEMON LAWS. You bought from Missouri, so New York law means nothing. Missouri is the puppy mill capital of the USA, so it’s not surprising they offer no legal protection for puppy purchasers who chose back yard breeders and brokers who sell FOR puppy mills.

“We guarantee our puppies to be free from any life threatning, non-treatable communicable disease at time of purchase and we allow 3 days for the buyer to have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian. You may receive a replacement puppy if there is any life threatening, non-treatable communicable disease diagnosed by the Veterinarian at that time or if puppy dies from any communicable disease within 3 days of purchase as determined by an autopsy performed by a licensed Veterinarian. “

THREE days?!?! What a joke. Didn’t that concern you when you decided to buy the puppy online? And you have to pay for the autopsy to PROVE anything. That’s going to cost more than the purchase price of the puppy.

No, you won’t get a refund, and a lawyer can’t do anything for you. The “breeder” (BROKER) held up her part of the deal: three days of guaranteed health. And because there are no puppy lemon laws, you are just out of luck.

AKC registration just means it’s a purebred, NOT that it’s WELL bred (there is a big difference!), or that it’s healthy
or free of genetic diseases or deformities.

Hold on, they can’t even this broker doesn’t even make a promise about the COLOR of the puppy you get?? So you can put a white pup in your shopping cart, get a black pup in the mail, and have no right to complain??!A health certificate from a vet means nothing. This just means the vet has looked at the puppy and doesn’t SEE anything. It doesn’t involve any sort of testing, etc,….

I hope you’ve learned a valuable lesson. And maybe by posting this you will save someone else some money and heartache.

edit: I checked out their page. Multiple breeds, designer mutts, registers pups with scam puppy mill registries like the ACA (American Canine Association), that require NO proof that the pup is actually a purebred, classic puppy broker site. A broker is a person who buys pups directly from a mill, and then sells them at a huge mark up. No one is going to actually buy from a puppy mill, so the brokers act as middle men/women. Lots of them claim to have a history vet medicine, but since REAL vets can be verified, they all pretend to be techs.

I don’t see ONE puppy here registered with the AKC. I think you got confused. These are all ACA puppies. The AKC is NOT the ACA.

Q: Very concerned about my dog’s health?
I just adopted a 1yr old female beagle mix from an animal shelter. All was fine the first day I brought her home (Monday). Tuesday night she began to show the following symptoms: did not want to eat after about 2 pm… hard breathing and then began to make a “hacking/ coughing” sound as if she was going to throw up but nothing came out.
Wednesday, symptoms got worse. She ate very little and hacking/coughing symptoms became worse and when she pooped, it was watery (brownish) but had blood only when she finished.
Thursday (today, thanksgiving) hacking coughing gets worse when she stands up. she breaths hard (stomach puffs up down) before coughing/ hacking begins… tries to throw up but nothing comes out. There are no vets where I live…but finally got a hold of one 50 miles away…will take her ASAP.
Not that I will wait for a response before I take her to the vet but anyone have any ideas what is going on with this dog?

For the record, I called the Shelter and they said it was “probably” the change in diet (food) or seperation anxiety/depression. No previous medical problems reported. Please help

A: This is difficult, and my answer is purely speculation because I cannot exam the dog. It sounds like two things. Changing food causes runny stool, and sometimes blood, and stress causes the same things. Both are likely. However the cough, with a shelter dog there are two things. Kennel cough is possible, but with the labored breathing, I would rule it out. Heartworms though… Can cause the symptoms. However the coughing with heartworms is gradual. It wouldn’t suddenly start like that. Wouldn’t be the first time a shelter lied about a history.

Things you need to do: Basically keep her hydrated. If she isn’t interested in water, give her ice cubes. Most dogs love that. She needs to see a vet. This is too complex for any online diagnosis, because of the potential for it to be something serious, or something minor. Whatever answers you see here, you will be best to ignore them, unless they say GO TO A VET.

Q: Veterinarian help? – My dog’s health?
I have a 2 year old female Corgi. Every month or two, she gets into this state, where she has the following symptoms :

bloody tears (this is the weird one)
mild appetite loss
lethargy
irritability

Could there be any correlation between these symptoms? She had has a tear duct problem her whole life, but just recently with the bloody tears. My vet can’t figure it out.
Any one have any suggestions of things I could get her tested for?
Thanks!

A: If your dog is having bloody tears, ask your vet to refer you to a veterinary ophthalmologist.

Q: What caused the dog’s death?
MY COUSIN HAS HAD HER CHIHUAHUA FOR 8 YEARS. THE DOG HAS NEVER HAD ANY HEALTH PROBLEMS. THEN ON SATURDAY THE DOG STARTED SCRATCHING REALLY BAD. MY COUSIN GAVE HER A BATH THINKING SHE HAD GOTTEN INTO SOMETHING IN THE GRASS THAT WAS IRRITATING HER. THE BATH DID NOT HELP. ON SUNDAY WHEN SHE WOKE UP THE DOG WAS LITERALLY PANTING FROM WEARING HER SELF OUT SCRATCHING SO BAD. WHEN MY COUSIN RETURNED HOME FROM CHURCH THE DOG WAS DEAD. THE ONLY SYMPTOM WAS HER SCRATCHING. CAN YOU GIVE ANY ADVICE AS TO WHAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THIS?
THANK YOU

A: sounds like an allergic reaction to something or anything that might have bitten her. The sad part is if she was that bad in the morning and was taken to the vets she could have been given an antihistamine

Q: My Dog’s Health?
my dog has recently been throwing up a lot (maybe once a day for the past 3 days) and just threw up again about 30 minutes ago. he has no other symptoms but we called the vet just to be safe. he told us to keep an eye on him and to bring him in tomorrow as it didnt seem urgent. we have had this problem and found that his intestines had something caught in them and it had to be surgically removed. im afraid that this has happened again. my vet told us last time that this was a one time surgery and if it happened again he would need to be put down. is there any truth to this. he hasnt had any problems since the last surgery (march 2006) but one day about a week ago we came home to find him out of his crate (brother forgot to put him back in) and he had been in the laundry room (we brought down our dirty clothes the night before) im afraid this is starting all over again. we are taking him to the vet tomorrow. but is there any truth to the statement that this surgery is a one time thing?
i hope so to Stina. it just scares me. i raised this dog from a baby. i saved him from a terrible home. and now because my brother was so irresponsible, i might be losing him
oh and he is only 2 (almost 3) so its not that he cant handle it. my vet says he is a very healthy dog. other than his wanting to eat things that are unappropriate for him to eat
~^v^dont kill the metal^v^~- it is a surgery that involves opening him up and opening the spot where the object is stuck and getting it out.
will do Vet Tech: thanks for the advice. this dog means the world to me. i always trusted this vet. the problem is he is the best of the three vets in town. i am considering taking him to the vet that we take our cats to. but i have no say in it my parents still trust this guy. this is the same guy that told us to put our cat to sleep because he had gross looking eyes. but i have no say in it. he is normally a very good vet for checkups and shots but he isnt good for much else. but my parents chose him because he is cheap

A: Other then the vomiting no other symptoms? How is his appetite??

Hon, make sure you request lateral abdominal rads tomorrow at the vet appointment. To be on the safe said I would not allow your dog to eat or drink after midnight tonight, OK? I highly suspect a partial obstruction.

Rest assured that there is NO truth behind the ignorant statement your vet made about him needing to be euthanized if he ends up with another obstruction. There is a American Bulldog/Lab mix that comes to our office and we have performed over 4 exploratory/obstruction surgeries in the last 3 years because he eats inappropriate things!

The more I think about it, I really suggest you find a new vet. I would NOT trust this current vet. Huge red flag in my book. I would get him in with another office tomorrow for rads.

Please keep me updated and let me know how he does…

Q: What, if any, health issues do Bengal cats have as a breed?
Many purebred dogs and cats have particular problems that are common for that breed. Do Bengal cats have any common health issues? What are they, and what symptoms should I look out for?
The exotic breed of domestic cats, not the tigers, and not the football team.

A: I have a 4 yr old exotic cat and he is very healthy. The only reccommendation I can make is that they tend to become overweight b/c they are generally much larger than other breeds. My cat once weighed 32 lbs but now he is down to 22 lbs which the vet said is ok… just keep them active and watch how much food they eat.

Q: my dog is very sick. ?’s about breeders and vets and my rights?
bought boxer 16mo’s ago $700

health problems incl. but not limited to bladder, eye, foot yeast, ear infections, puppy strangles disease, massive allergic reactions, thyroid problems and now a tumor.

the vet couldn’t get a sample from the mass. he removed it. the results came back great as benign hysticytoma. 2 days later he went from being his happy self to lethargic & whimpering. his sutures began pussing and opening. his abdomen developed huge pockets of fluid. breathing is like hyperventilating.

i’ve been to the vet’s 4x in 24hrs. 2x to reg 2x to ER. he’s there until monday. REALLY sick. the exact same symptoms, much more advanced and bruised. very sad. the wound is massive and gaping.

we are not vets! he needed their care. we have spent $2400 in one week on willis.

i am upset with the breeder for giving me such a sick dog and not refunding. with the vet for not being agressive with treatment. what else could we do??

do i have any rights?

he’s 1.5yrs old! i’m v poor & sad.
i did do research and called 2 people that owned pups they sold.
he is on a special diet… natures recipe- venison and rice. only treats are carrots and rice cakes. it has helped a lot.
i have papers… they say i can get a trade within one year. but i am not going to trade my dog! he is my baby.

i will put him down if there is no hope. but he has been healthy for a few months. he is so sweet and playful and brings us joy.
all of my prior animals have been rescues. no purebreds. my first cat died at 6yrs after $4000 of surgeries, chemo, cryogenics. her playmate died 6mos later (also 6yrs) from a vacuum cleaner induced heart attack. she was chunky and middle aged according to the vet.

i did the research on the breeder prepurchase, breed post. it was a req (and i suprised him) by my fiance. i thought stupidly they would be healthy considering the payment.

i don’t think these people are backyard breeders. and i know vets do the best they can. he seems inexperienced however. and this seems like bad business by the breeder, by not refunding, considering the investment i have made.

i have an animal curse. the day i took the dog in for a tumor they told me my kitten has a heart murmur 4-5 on a scale of 1-6. she’s 2 yrs old.

the only healthy animal is my fiancees cat.
he has only been showing signs of pain for 2 days. extreme pain, yes. he was on 2 antibiotics and 2 pain pills. none of the vets have even hinted at doing that. until today they led me to believe he’d be fine soon. i think he will be now that he is in the care of the ER’ vets.

my concern is the infection has possibly given him inner tissue damage, which would mean he would need skin removal. i worry about his recovery. i never want to see him hurt like this again.

BUT the ER vet said that we as owners have acted agressively enough where she thinks there is a good chance this won’t be a problem.
i took willis to the vet the morning after i bought him. i was suprised that the vet told me the number of shots he needed was more than what the breeders had told me. but at that point had fallen head first in love with him.

i just called the ER.. they are working on him right now and she’s calling me in 1-2hrs. my fingers and toes are crossed.

they ran a series of tests… bloodwork looks good. hooked him up to an IV. draing and flushing… snipping his infected stitches and redoing… figuring out the problem.

we sent him there in january. he was vommitting profusely.. i live in chicago and someone in the neighborhood says dogs have been poisoned. and he tries to eat everything. i think that was the prob, but they pumped him full of fluids and fixed him up great.

i feel much better than i did, just knowing he is in hands i trust.

A: well far as your rights go. do you have records of a vet check-up right after you gotten your dog ?? w/ in 24-48 hrs of getting it or w/ in a few days ? if your dog was found w/ problems a year after buying it. it would be a tought case to prove. good luck and keep us posted.

Q: Does anyone else absolutly love this website for pet health questions?
I came across this site a while ago and really it has proved to be the greatest resource on pet health information I have been able to find online. I use it all the time to help friends and family and myself answer questions about pet problems that our vets have no answered adequately, or just to get a second opinion on treatments or symptoms etc. Its called Marvista Vet Pet Web Library.. http://www.marvistavet.com/html/the_pet_web_library.html
If you havent checked it out before I suggest you do it is very helpful and informative resource for pet owners. Thanks to this site I have been able to find out many things and when my dog got an Aural Hematoma I was able to know all the options, treatments, causes etc and I was able to walk into the vet office informed and knowledgeable about my dogs problem. Anyone else use this site and love it? I say kudos to the people who made it its the best thing I have found to help me keep involved and informed about my pets health.

A: I love that one. thanks for spreading the word. I often use vetinfo.com ..vetinfo is a bit easier for me to find things, and has several case discussions on each topic, with alternate treatments. It is written in layman’s language. I only put in my search word (usually a symptom) and the word vetinfo to bring up the topic on the site..Or, go to the site and use the alphabetical index..Also great cat stuff.

Q: Older Dog with Very Dry, Flaky nose?
I have an unneutered german shepherd who is about 10 years old. He’s been in great shape up until this and does not look or act like an old dog at all. He has started to get an extremely dry nose. It’s so bad that parts of his nose start to flake off. He is not dehydrated as they always have fresh water. My other dog is not showing any symptoms.

Last month he also got a sore on his hindquarters. I am not sure if it started out as a sore or as very dry, cracked skin though. In any case, he bit it until it was an oozing sore, and that’s when I noticed it. His fur is long enough for it to stay hidden before that. I squeezed vitamin e oil onto it for 3 days, and it cleared up. All his fur grew back pretty quickly.

I don’t know if these things are related, but they are both recent, and he did not have any health problems before.

I haven’t tried anything to soothe the nose yet, but a moisturising oil and vitamin e would be my first guess.

Could this be a serious condition?
