Q: How serious is a dog ear infection?
On my dogs annual checkup the vet said that my dog had a bacterial ear infection. I haven’t noticed her ear bothering her at all. She has been acting perfectly normal. The vet gave me ear drops to put in both ears for the infection but since I have started giving them to my dog two days ago she has not been herself. She has had an upset stomach and just seems really tired… shes usually pretty energetic. I am going to call the vet but I was wondering if I should continue the meds or what?

A: Most ear issues are primarily yeast with a possible secondary bacterial infection from scratching. If he gave you the drops use them. I prefer rubbing alcohol to clean the ear to prevent yeast growth in the first place. If the ear is heavily infected, then the drops would help.

Q: Is their Antibiotic for dog ear infection I can get without a precipitation RX!?
Antibiotic for dog ear infection
I’ve looked and cant find anything and i can’t drive so my only option right now is buying online!

A: I know that Petsmart has an ear cleaning and disinfecting kit. If you really need an antibiotic go to a feed store they sell them there, I don’t know what state your in but out here in the So. Ca. area we have Centinela, and Aneheim feed, to name a few, but usually anywhere that sells horse supplies and other types of animal supplies should have some.

Q: What Are Signs Of A Dog Ear Infection?
My dog scratches her ears alot and then my other dog started doing it to and anytime i try to look at them they wont let me and are very squirmy. Any Ideas if this could be an infection, but if not what then?

A: Hi Lemons!!! You can not treat this at home; she needs a vet as soon as possible. Some of the common things that could have caused this problem include; allergies, mites, bacteria, infection, something actually getting into the ear, diseases, and yeast infection (and this isn’t even a complete list if that gives you any idea of how many different things can have the symptoms you are describing.)

If she continues to scratch them and you don’t take her to the vet she could rupture her eardrum if she hasn’t already. Your vet should clean the ears and teach you how to (must be careful if done incorrectly more damage could be caused.) He may have to sedate the dog depending on how painful it is for her. He will then take samples to see what is wrong with her. Most likely she will need medication (antibiotics, yeast cream ect or so forth depending on the problem.)

I am sorry !!!. Lots of luck!!!

Q: My dog may have swallowed some dog ear infection medication?
I caught my dog chewing on the cap of Routeen Otic Cleanser for dog ear infections, She had just put it in her mouth, Im guessing I caught her 30 seconds into the act.I checked the cap and it was broken open and i squeezed it and some liquid came out. Can she die from this or even get sick? Please help!

A: I doubt it will hurt.

Q: can I buy an over counter medicine for my dog ear infection?
I need to buy some thing today my dogs ear hurts is there any med over counter? for ear infection?

A: yes you can buy… but get your dog checked once… the vet will be the right person to assist the correct medicine for the ear infection….

Q: Is it possible for an ear infection in one dog to pass to another dog?
One of my dogs is going to the vet tommorrow for an ear infection (I’m not sure yet what is the cause of it.) I’ve been checking my other dogs ears…haven’t noticed any symptoms, but I’m wondering if infections caused by yeast, other bacteria, or ear mites would be contagious?

It’s not a problem to bring my other dog to the appointment…should I, just to be on the safe side?

A: Yes it can be contagious… all of them.

Q: Any over the counter medicine for a dog ear infection?
My dog is very prone to ear infections because of his floppy ears (so the vet tellsme) and eveytime I take him to the vet, it costs about $200. Is there an over the counter cleanser that cures ear infections? or only to prevent them?
Thanks for any response!!!

A: You can use this simple, affordable homemade solution to prevent problems, once the current infection is cleared up: http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/ears.html
It’s very gentle and effective. I can’t use OTC or even prescription ear washes on my dog because they irritate her ears. This doesn’t irritate her at all yet it prevents ear infections quite effectively.

Any time you suspect your dog has an ear infection, it’s best to go ahead & take the dog to the vet, because only the vet can look carefully inside the ear to determine if the eardrum is intact or has been ruptured by the infection. If you use an earwash, homemade product, or even leftover medicine from a previous infection in a dog whose eardrum has ruptured, it can cause permanent damage to the ear and possibly deafness. It’s possible for your dog to have a ruptured ear drum and not really act like it’s in pain – my dog’s ear drum ruptured once from a deep infection without any visible symptoms, and the only clue she ever gave that there was a problem was to begin shaking her head occasionally.

I would suggest that you go ahead & take your dog to the vet for this infection, and then after the ears are cleared up, begin using the purple power ear solution from the link above. My dog used to cost me a small fortune for ear infection vet bills on a regular basis until I started using the purple power solution. But she hasn’t had a single infection since I started using it a couple of years ago.

Another thing you might want to consider: ear infections are often associated with allergies. Check your dog food ingredients: does it contain soy, corn, wheat, or artificial coloring? Those ingredients often cause allergy issues for dogs – try to find a food without those ingredients. My dog does well on Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul. Canidae and Wellness are also both excellent brands that are less likely to cause allergy problems.

If the ear problems continue even after starting the purple solution and changing your dog’s diet, you might want to see a veterinary dermatologist for allergy testing.

Q: Can my dog get sick by licking my other dogs ear infection, or heal her?
my 7 year old black lab has had a really bad ear infection in both ears and we think shes going deaf. we have not been able to find anything that helps it. Vet says its a yeast infection. My 7 month old puppy acts really gentle with her now and licks her ears out as if hes trying to help her. Can he get sick licking her infection, or can he help her heal faster?

A: Not good for puppy or older dog. The constant moistness form the licking will make any infection worse, and it isnm’t healthy to lick up bacteria or fungus all day either. Teach your puppy that this is a no-no.

Q: Is there an alternative to an expensive to a vet regarding dog ear infection?
My dog has one ear infected and has seen a vet in the past, but due to the humongous cost of vets I want to know if there is an alternative to the prescription used by the vet.

A: You should never try to treat an ear infection yourself. For one thing you need to find out what exactly is causing the infection and get the correct medication for it.
If the ear drum is perforated and you put anything in the ear you can permanently damage your dogs hearing.
lt really is better to see the vet, if not you will cause your dog prolonged suffering and possibly cause more damage which will end up costing you more money and your dog more pain.

Q: how to treat a dog ear infection?
well i have a cocker spanial and he is 4 years old…Lately his right ear has been smelling really bad and he has been scratching it, which is BAD…… i dont have money at the moment to take him to the vet , so wat is a good way to relieve a ear infection for a dog?

A: You need to take him to the vet so they can determine what type of infection it is.
Then you can treat it correctly.

Q: What’s the symptom of ear infection for a dog?
My dogs ear smells even after I wash him, he didn’t have any exudate, should I suspect it’s an ear infection?

A: i hope this link help

Q: whats the best home remedy for an ear infection for a dog?
My dogs ears stink really bad. I know he has an ear infection. Whats the best home remedy for them?

A: Untreated ear infections can lead to deafness and severe pain. If you know your pup has an ear infection, then a visit to the vet tomorrow AM is in order.

Q: Head tremors in dog ear infection related?
Hello, I posted a question yesterday about my beagle x basset mix. He is 16 months old.

He has seen a vet, but I have a question some of you might be able to answer from experience.

Can head tremors be caused by ear mites or ear infections?
How would the vet go about checking the inner ear?

A: If he has an ear infection he will shake his head quite often, especially after you put ear drops in.

If he looks like he is having seizures you need to take him back to the vet IMMEDIATELY.

Q: can i put diaper rash cream on a dog ear infection?
i think my dog has a ear infection his ear is reddish with bumps earwax and a Lil blood what can i put on it if i have no money for the vet what a nice acceptable home remedy help me please in scared lmfao
it seem like wen you got money theres nothing wrong wit them then when you done payed all the bills and your broke something pops up out of the blue but yea its in his inner ear

A: There is no nice acceptable home remedy for canine ear infections. There are procucts available at pet stores to clean the ears, but they will not get rid of an infection. Stop to think about what you’re asking. Would you want diaper rash cream in your ear for an infection? Infections require antibiotics to get rid of them. Besides that, it’s becoming a well known fact that poor nutrition and allergies (to grains) in dogfood cause ear infections. You are what you eat, and so is your dog. If you feed him a dogfood with what he needs in it, and that doesn’t have what he doesn’t need, his immunity to bacteria (and all other diseases) will increase. If he’s a breed of dog prone to ear infections because of the way the ear hangs, etc., you need to also be following a breed recommendation prevention routine.

You can get some types of antibiotics at farm supply stores, but you’d need to know the dosage for the weight of your dog, and whether the kind that’s available would be effective for the type of infection your dog has.

Q: how to prevent/cure a dog ear infection?
i have a maltese dog and it has an ear infection! ]: im so sad!
its the second time my dog got it, and the inside of his ear has like dried blood looking things/little red grainy stuff inside

i cleaned her ear and put ear mite treatment in it, but i dont know if its the best way to help!
when i clean her ear, she tries to bite me and get really mad, so i had to hold her down really firmly to clean her ear
i also pulled out some of the inner ear hair (that had alot of the red stuff on it) , cause my vet told me that i should do it when my dog has an infection

is it an allergy thing? do i need to change his food? i read other answers that it might have to do with his food…that the food might be giving her allergies > ear infection..
right now shes eating Pedigree food with the “meaty inside nuggets”

please help my poor doggy! im really scared that she’ll get really sick ]’:
i dont want to go to the vet really cause it costs so much and my vet place is soo far!

help please! ty~
okay just because my dog has an ear infection doesnt mean i am a “cruel & selfish” owner (plynn_03 ) thats just harsh, youre being cruel yourself

i keep my dog’s ears clean and somehow my dog got an infection and im just asking for some tips to help him get better, not judgmental/rude comments

A: Yes it could have to do with food, it could also be a yeast infection. Schedule an appt, the dog may have to be put under to really clean and determine the source.

Food…. if you can buy it at the grocery store DON’T FEED IT TO YOUR DOG!!!! Wheat is the #1 allergy for dogs, and it will generally show up at the ears. red inflamed ears, itchy skin. Dull coat all signs. (note they do not have to have all 3 signs)

Move your dog to a holistic formula, duck & potatoe, fish and potato
