Q: I noticed natural balance gives my dogs diarrhea?
I have been using Artemis dry dog food for years. I decided to try something different, and go with natural balance. I noticed that all four of my dogs get diarrhea from it. The ingredients on natural balance seems pretty good. But what is up with the diarrhea? Has this happened to anyone elses dog?
They have eaten natural balance for about a month, so you’d think by now, their body would adjust to the food

A: I don’t really recommend adding any additional ingredients to the food.

Why don’t you just stick with Artemis. If they’ve been on that food for years, why change? ;)

If they’re doing well with Artemis, just stick with it. It’s a very high quality food. I highly recommend it!

Good luck with your doggies!

Q: Home remedy for diarrhea for dogs and cats?
Does anyone have a good home remedy for dogs and cats that have diarrhea?
I am looking for something other than food. I won’t feed my animals ‘people’ food because in the past THAT has given them diarrhea. I need to know of some type of medicine.
And by medicine I mean like a home rememdy medicine.
The reason I want a home remedy is because I don’t want to take them to the vet.

A: Go to www.walkervalleyvet.com for a list of over the counter medicines that are safe for cat and dogs and the dosing amounts. Pepto bismol is safe for dogs to take but not sure about cats.

Q: What is the best way to cure a dogs diarrhea?
My dog ate peanuts on Christmas and now she has diarrhea really bad. She is 5 yrs old, and I am not worried about it really hurting her. She just seems so uncomfortable, and I am getting tired of running her outside. She has tons of water, and I tried giving her crackers hoping to bind her a little. It didnt help.

Any advice? (Other than not feeding her peanuts? She helped herself by the way).

A: make a large pot of white rice and add a boullion cube to it. the rice will help bind her and the chicken broth will give her protein. she may not have diarrhea from the nuts. if it continues i would take her to the vet. she may be dehydrated.

Q: What is causing my dogs diarrhea?
I have 2 6 month old dogs (a Chihuahua terrier and the other is a bull boxer) the have had diarrhea for some time now. They are not lethargic, are very energetic and have a well balanced diet. But they have diarrhea. What could be the cause of this? My other Chihuahua doesn’t have it and he’s 3 yrs old. We have tried many different dog foods to see if it would stop. But they still have it no matter what. They have been dewormed, but haven’t had all their shots.

A: Try to give them a high quality dog food.I personally give my dogs members mark Exceed the pink bag from sams club i like it so far because its good quality and it compares to Eukanuba
Its only 30 dollars for a huge bag that will last u a while. ( just a recomendation). And make sure you do not give them table scraps or anything else other than their kibble. Also, i buy my dogs vaccines from animalrevival.com you can buy their vaccines their for about 7 dollars you can also call local feed and pet stores to see if they sell them for about the same. Make sure they stay current on vaccinations and if it continues then i recomend you take them to a vet.
Hope i helped!

Q: How to stop my dogs diarrhea?
My dog just had puppies last week and has had diarrhea for the last 4 days. I called my Vet and they took a stool sample and said it was fine. He said to give her Kaopectate and see if this helps. Nope, she still has it. Plus I do not want to give her too much medication since her pups will get that too. I am calling the Vet again tomorrow, but thought I would ask now: What else should I try?

A: To begin with, dietary changes can be very helpful and effective. Sometimes reducing your pet’s food for a day or two can help to quickly clear up diarrhea. Another technique is to feed your dog a homemade, bland diet until the symptoms have passed. In cases of large intestine-related diarrhea, a high-fiber diet may prove effective. Certain homeopathic remedies and supplements can also provide relief for dogs experiencing diarrhea.

I would suggest a natural remedy while your dog is nursing the new born puppies. Try using http://www.petwellbeing.com/dog-diarrhea-p73.cfm for your dog’s diarrhea instead of any drugs and see if that will work.

Homeopathic remedies contain natural ingredients, some of which have properties that can effectively reduce the discomfort of diarrhea and the length of time that it lasts for. Natural substances such as barberry and peony, for example, have antibiotic properties that can help to combat diarrhea-causing bacteria. Other ingredients such as ginger, myrrh, and thyme reduce pain, spasms, and inflammation, thereby reducing the troubling symptoms of diarrhea and increasing your pet’s comfort.

Q: Could eating too much cause diarrhea in dogs?
For example if my dog is supposed to eat 1/2 cup but one day she eats 3/4 of a cup could she develop diarrhea? Of dog food only, no food changes, no human food, no treats.

And how long after she overeats(at dinner) would she have it? The next morning, the next evening??
She overate at dinner but didn’t have diarrhea until the next evening right before bed time.

A: Yes, when you are trying to find the correct amount of food to feed you look at the stools. Too much food = diarrhea and too little= hard poop. If she overate at dinner she would have diarrhea the next morning.

Q: Both my dogs have diarrhea and vomiting. Is there something that is contagious? They became sick within 24 hr?
I just drove 1300 miles with my two Golden Retrievers. The 12 year old came down with vomiting and diarrhea the day of our arrival. After an ER visit due to dehydration, he is doing better but now the 1 year old has it. Do dogs catch stomach “bugs”?

A: Dogs can catch ’stomach bugs’ in a way. The only way of knowing this is by testing. It sounds like the drive may have not helped. Stress can also bring this kind of thing on. Make sure you starve the other for 24 hours and keep up his fluids as much as possible, and take him straight to a vet if your worried.

Q: What can cause bloody diarrhea in dogs?
My dog was fixed on Wednesday, yesterday he started getting diarrhea, today the diarrhea had large amounts of blood in it and a very foul odor. I have never smelled anything so bad, it smells like death. The vet says it could be parasites or parvo, but not due to the surgery. What do you think? He is a four year old healthy Pit Bull.

A: COCCIDIA!!!!!
The smell is the key to that!!!
Does NOT always show up on a fecal.
Treat w/ALBON from the VET!

Then you better treat w/ PANACUR=from VET TOO!=for GIARDIA,just in case.

***NOT*** related to the castration at ALL! Neutering is NO BIG DEAL! & NO,it did NOT pick up the coccidia at the vet…it’s HAD the parasite for weeks.

Q: Why might dogs get diarrhea from eating canned Food?
My dog was eating canidae canned food for about a month and i noticed her having very runny stool and sometimes diarrhea. i thought she might had worms so i took her to the vet and it came out negative. then i changed her diet, to canidae dry, and her stool is firm and healthy again. why would canned food make my dog have diarrhea?
hey recon, what’s Nuke for 5-10 mins mean?

A: My dog has the exact same problem. My vet said the food is too rich and wet puppy food (good brand or not) is often injected with water to make the meat swell to fill the cans. My vet said that the water content of the food maybe too high and this is why it causes the dog to have runny stools. Not sure how true this is but its what my vet said? Since I switched my dog onto dry complete food he hasn’t had runny stools so i’m keeping away from wet food! I just give my dog boiled chicken fillets with his dry mix to add some falvour to his meals

Q: For my dogs diarrhea how much?
Everyone is suggesting imodium for my dogs diarrhea. What is the dosage? One caplet equals 2mg. Do I give him a whole one or half and what is the time interval? He weighs 60 pound. He’s not vomiting, he’s active, eats and drinks plenty! Thanks!
He’s 22 months!
Calm down people! Obviously I would take him to the vet if I thought it was something dangerous! We don’t run to the doctor everytime we have a problem…..we’d be in bankruptcy!

A: ???

Q: what can i do to help my dogs diarrhea?
he stole a whole pan of cornbread and now comes the bad part, his stool is really loose and i have to get up every 15 min to take him out. i would eave him outside but its very cold (low 30’s) is there anything i can do to help him be more errrm… comfortable?

lol thanks!
im not about to go on a walk right now! lol its 1 in the morning!

A: your best bet is to stop food for the next 24 hours.. do allow him access to water tho, as diarreah can make him dehydrate. After 24 hours put him on a bland diet of boiled white rice and boiled chicken or hamburg until his system gets back to “normal” then slowly reintroduce his regular diet.

I’ve heard that a little pure canned pumpkin sometimes helps.. make sure its pumpkin tho and not the pie filling that has spices..

When my dog had a case of “garbage gut” a few years ago.. my vet also advised that my dog could have pepto bismol or kaopectate.. but Im unsure of the dosage now.. (Kao is a better solution, as pepto may make the stools a dark color and appear as tho there is blood in the stool). You could try calling an ER vet and see what they reccommend.

Q: What’s the difference between super-soft stools and diarrhea in dogs?
Better said, how can you differentiate the two?

A: Well, diarrhea is usually a liquid or semi-liquid. Soft stools are just that – poop that is soft.

Q: How do i get rid of my dogs diarrhea?

A: Use a mop. Then take your little buddy to the vet. He will have a better answer than my dumb one.

Q: How do people treat dogs with sensitive stomachs/diarrhea?
My dog is healthy but frequently has diarrhea-sometimes bad, but usually low grade. Any ideas? She sometimes soils the carpets. I am always careful when i change food to do it very slowly. She just has a sensitive stomach. Any ideas? Any good products to clean up poo stains?

A: Just keep her on dry, bland food. Don’t give her wet food, as it is richer and can cause upset stomachs.

Try sticking to the same foods if you can, the less you change her food, the less she’ll get the runs. Once you find a food that doesn’t upset the stomach and the dog loves it, keep with it.

If your dog has the runs for a few days in a row, try boiling some plain white rice or pasta and mix it with a cooked white fish such cod or coley, or even some chicken if she isn’t a great fish lover.

There are many carpet cleaners out there to tackle what they call “spots”, but i find hot soapy water and a scrubbing brush works just as well. (My dog has so many allergies, it’s easier for us (lol).

When looking for dog food, try looking for easily digestible. Nothing too rich. I’m not 100% sure where you live, but where I am they sell a dog food called “Chappie”. Works fantastic with my dogs. It’s low fat, they like it, and it’s so bland there’s no mess!

Good luck, and don’t despair, sometimes it takes a little trial and error :)

Q: What home remedies and over the counter meds are available to treat diarrhea in dogs?

A: If it’s not due to worms or some other illness.

I would try canned pumpkin, cottage cheese, boiled white rice before trying over the counter drugs.
