Q: where do i get tesco pet insurance claim form?
I unfortunately need to claim vet fees from tesco pet insurance which i purchased online. i cant seem to find a claim form or any info on how to claim.
A: What happens if I need to make a claim?
Answer: You can call our Pet Insurance claims line on 0845 300 2200. The opening hours are:
Monday-Friday, 8am-8pm
Saturday, 9am-2pm
You’ll need to quote your policy number, which you’ll find at the top of your policy schedule.
Q: Tesco pet insurance?
Has anyone used Tesco for pet insurance ? they seem to be one ofthe cheapest ,but just wondered if they are ok.
Iam looking to insure my two kittens.
A: my friend rang round everywhere to get prices to insure her dog…& Tesco’s was the cheapest…she has had no problems with them at all.
Q: Anyone else had problems with Tesco pet insurance ?
My vet sent in a claim form at the beginning of September, when I rang Tesco three weeks later to find out when I’d receive the cheque they told me that they hadn’t received it . They sent another claim form which the vet filled in and sent recorded delivery, two weeks later another call from me to them and guess what ? they still hadn’t received it. My vet then faxed them a copy and spoke to a supervisor, I rang them at the beginning of the week and they’ve got the form but they’re looking at it.
There is nothing dodgy about my claim and it’s the first one I had for years, I also pay by direct debit. Has anyone else had the same problems as me with Tesco ?
It makes me wonder if they’re as bad with the rest of their insurance claims, car, buildings etc.
A: Claims are handled by underpaid staff with no training. They get if they are lucky 1/2 to 1 day coaching. Everything is referred to their line managers who are not much better than themselves. Decision making is not their strong point. Remember they still are 50% partners with the Royal Bank of Scotland. ‘Nough said. Ponies led by donkeys. How do I know? I worked for them for 11 years and they hated me for my straight forward decision making. I was classed as a trouble maker, but the customer liked my straight shooting from the hip.
Q: pre medical pet insurance!?!?!?
I own a dalamtian and when i took out my policy i wasnt told of ALL the covers i could have had just one price.I know its my fault but im young!!
Ive been with Tesco pet Insurance for 3 years now and last year my dal had bladder stones and was operated on which cost £600 but was covered so Tesco paid, but talking to my vet the other day she said that dalmatians are prone to this stones and my dog is bound to get them in his future. So i called Tesco to be told that after a year that i claimed for my dogs treatment i wont ever be covered for this conditon if he has it again?!?!? which all seems a con because now what am i supose to do if he gets them again in the future – pay £600 plus!!! does anyone know of ANY pet insurers that will take a dog with a Pre Medical Conditon??? as i don’t know now what to do, I know it’s my fault and should of looked in to the types of cover but they only ever offered me one.
A: I do not know of a pet insurance company that will cover a pre existing condition. If your pet has been seen for the problem by a vet and it is in the medical records, no insurance company I know of will cover it.
sorry.
Q: Should I go for Argos Pet Insurance?
I am one week away from getting my first dog from a rescue centre and am looking at pet insurance. I have looked at Tesco, Argos, RSPCA and Petplan amongst others. They all seem to do the same thing but at different prices.
I am looking at going with Argos and would like to hear from anyone who has has success or failure with Argos, or recommend any others. Thanks in advance
A: I’ve always received good service from PetPlan and also from E&L.
There is quite a menu to choose from including paying an excess to keep the payments down. Be careful when the dog gets older (and more likely to need the vet) because many policies will reduce the amount they’ll pay to around 50%. Remember, insurance is a business.
Q: Is pet insurance a good idea?
For the first time ever I’m able to afford insurance for my two dogs, both aged 8 years and 2 months, and have arranged cover with Tesco. They’ll both be insured for just under £25 a month and on paper it’s a very good deal, but is it? Really? Have you had any bad experiences that would put you off? I’ve always shied away from insurance because I didn’t think it was worth it (and couldn’t afford it in the past anyway) as there are so many exclusions, but a lot is also covered, so is it worth it? I know it’s my decision, but different views on pet insurance would be appreciated.
A: Pet insurance is great to have if your dog comes down with a major illness, or is in an accident. You’re right, there are a lot of exclusions and no ordinary care is covered. What a lot of people would rather do, is set aside a sum of money every month to be used in case of emergency. A lot of people find they have quite a nice sum by the end of their pet’s life becaue they’ve never needed to use it, but if you do, it’s there.
Q: Which pet insurance is the best?
Which pet insurance is the best for a dog?
I checked Petplan, which everyone says is good its £11.76 per month.
But Tesco are £6.89 per month…
But petplan ask for £50 excess on each condition of Vet fees, which is ok.
Tesco havent stated what their number is…
So i need help…Which one is better? or what insurance company is better?
A: I am with Petplan and I know that they will continue to pay out for the same condition for the duration of a dogs life. My premiums are higher than what you have been quoted, however my GSD has had numerous problems and for the last two years I have probably had more from them than they have had from me. Thankfully my dog is now fit and healthy. Check with Tesco and ask if their cover is for the life of the dog. Lots of companies will cease their cover if your dog has an ongoing problem and then its impossible to insure your dog elsewhere.
Q: How long does it take for the pet insurance to pay out?
i’m insured with tesco
A: I suppose it would depend on the claim, how much detail is involved that needs to be checked by the insurance company etc.
I have tesco ins too, for my dog. We made a £450+ claim about 18 months ago, tesco paid the claim out and we received the money within a week
I good idea is to give them a call a couple of days after you have sent the claim form off. They should have a good idea then of how long you will have to wait.
Q: What is the best pet insurance for 100% domestic kitten in UK?
Hi all cat lovers! I’m the proud “father” of 9 months old Oriental Shorthair boy. I never let him outside, if he’s outdoor he’s always supervised. What pet isurance would U advise and why? The insurance market is much too big, and every single major company have pet insurance in it’s offer. Even Tesco, Asda etc. I’m a bit confused. It’s hard to find a pearl in this big mess. I don’t want to insure my Neo like an item, I’m looking for the company who got specific offer for cats. I want all the best for my kitten. Please help!
A: I’m with petplan and have been pleased with the service and prompt payments. They’re not the cheapest though. Axa and Halifax are two that other people have recommended to me.
Some pointers:
Make sure any policy you take out offers cover for life (ie they will continue to renew your premium and pay out regardless of any conditions your cat may get). A lot of companies do offer cover for lifem, but some don’t.
Max amt per year is better than per condition (the latter will stop paying out when you reach the max, so if your cat gets a chronic condition, they will eventually stop paying for it unlike per year which will renew that amount each year).
Read the specific exclusions carefully so that you know exactly what is and isn’t covered (some will cover dentals, for example, while others will only cover dental treatment needed as the result of an accident) and what the excess is.
While a competitively priced premium is attractive, don’t get too carried away with price. A cheap premium is no good if you find you aren’t covered for lots of things. As with other forms of insurance, insurerers tend to lure you in with low premiums but when it comes to renewal time it goes up. Unlike other forms of insurance, it’s not easy to change pet insurance if your pet has had any treatment as that will count as a pre-existing condition. Price is important, but make sure you policy sounds good too.
I would go for a minimum of £6000 cover per year. Vet treatment is very expensive – eg an MRI scan would cost about £2000. Incidentally, petplan offer a ‘Cat’ policy which offers £6000 worth of cover, but for some reason that doesn’t show up on their website.
Make sure the underwriter is reputable and has been in the insurance business for a while. I would be wary of some of the new companies that are offering pet insurance – if they decide pet insurance isn’t profitable for them they may withdraw from the market leaving you in a bit of a mess.
I would avoid M&S – they have recently introduced a new clause which requires you to ring their helpline BEFORE you take your cat to an out of hours vet. Failure to do so (and who wants to waste time in an emergency ringing M&S before they ring their own vet?) could result in them refusing to pay out.
Q: pet insurance?
Hi can any one reccomend a good pet insurance.Ive been told by my local vet s staff to keep away from places like tesco and asda and go for somewhere like directline or marks n spencer.Any one with these? And has anyone had any problems with their pet insurance? Im looking to insure a cat and maybe a dog. Both under the age of 2. cheers
A: i would try pet plan www.petplan.co.uk i have been with them for years.
my horses and dogs are insured with them, they pay out very promptly if you have to make a claim ,and keep insuring for the same medical condition year after year if your dog happens to get ill and need ongoing treatment
i would also like to say i have never had any problems with petplan there customer service is second to none and they are very sympathetic you have to claim and send out a form straight away for the vet to fill in good luck but try petplan
Q: What Pet insurance for my cat? In England.?
I’m getting confused about what Pet Insurance I should have for my cat. I’ve had lots of quotes and looked up reviews but I’m worried that I’ll sign up for one that won’t pay up. Halifax had good reviews but it was so much more expensive than the others and Tesco was quite cheap but people are saying on review sites they don’t pay up, so any other opinions would be a help.
A: I am with Pet Plan and I am glad I am as when my Persian cat was ill a few years ago and subsequently died it would have cost me well over £1000 if I wasn’t insured. My other Persian was diagnosed with Crystals in his bladder a few years back and has to have special food for life and they paid for it all for the 1st 6 months. The Persians insurance is just over £15 a month
Q: Whats the best saving scheme I can use instead of pet insurance?
We own both a Yorkie terrier and a tabby cat. We’ve been looking for the past few weeks at pet insurance for them both. We know Petplan is meant to be the best but in reality is way too expensive. We’ve also looked at others such as Tesco which are cheaper but don’t cover you for most things I was thinking about putting a certain amount of money each month into a bank account such as £20 a month. We was wondering if anyone else does this instead of paying expensive premiums and if anyone has any advice.
A: go for the insurance every time.
vets fees can be very expensive.my dog is under petplan,my dog is only 18 months old and already ive had over 2000 in vets bills, for nothing major.pedigree dogs seem to get many more problems
Q: cheapest / best pet insurance for dog??
i was with pet plan as this came with the dog, however it ran out just b4 xmas and i havent redone it as were still waitin for papers 2 1/2 months on – still in contact with breeder and had probs in family, should be with us in 2 wk.we wanted to wait til we got papers – if he has papers will this make it cheaper???i heard tesco was v good, any experiences on how quick they pay out etc
A: A few recommendation when getting a pet insurance:
Pet Insurances are profitable businesses which means that on average, you will pay more to the insurer than you will ever do to the vet. Therefore, ideally, you would have a direct debit facility not to PetPlan but to your own account and pay your vet with it.
If you still want to get your pet insured, you will find 2 different type of insurance:
- PetPlan/PetProtect: they pay for one condition for the whole life of the animal.
- Tesco/DirectLine: they pay up to a year for the same condition
This explains the difference in price. Should your pet ever suffer from an ongoing skin condition, diabetes, cushing … which is likely to costs you for more than a year, then you will need the PetPlan type of insurance. For the occasional on/off injury, I confirm that Tesco seem to be very good.
Best wishes, Julien
Q: how do I get over my dog ?
I know some might think, ‘its just a dog’ but in the short time I had her, I loved her so much.
When she first came into our home, she was so scared, she was scared of us, she was a stray, and it was obvious that she had been harmed because if you’d ever raise your voice, she’d scarper.
We only had her for 3 weeks, and one day when we were visiting family, my sister left the gate open, and Cleo had got out. Cleo used to jump over our gate but NEVER wandered off, I don’t know why she did this time, maybe to find me ? We’d managed to get a great bond, she was listening to me, and loved being with me. The day she’d got out, I had to go to the dentist, and it’s the one thing I regret.
I spent an hour looking for her, and someone heard my calls and told us she’d been knocked down by a car.
We went to every vet and soon found her. She had a broken leg, and was in shock.
One thing that I can’t seem to forgive myself for is the pet insurance. I had a quote from tesco’s pet insurance, and was going to do it the following day ! WHY didn’t I do it THAT DAY !!!!
I didn’t have the money to help her, it was going to cost thousands, and It’s the biggest regret I have, I should of done something, I should have sold everything I could to make her better !!!!
The other thing, was her stomach looked bloated, I’d said that, and they said that they suspected she’d got internal bleeding, but couldn’t check because of the pain she was in.
I had to have her put down :’(
I stayed in there with her, and cuddled her. I asked everyone to get out for me, and spent a 5 minutes with her. It was so horrible. I’ve never had such a close bond with a dog before, she was everything to me ! She was only 10months old.
I can’t seem to forgive myself, and I have all of these ‘what ifs’, this happened in February this year.
I couldn’t deal with it, and went to find another dog – I know now that it wasn’t the right thing to do.
I have Ozzy, who is simular in looks to her, but he is boisterous. He is very affectionate, and wants to be near me. I love him so much, but can’t forget Cleo. I wish I had them both.
I said I wasn’t replacing Cleo, and that I wouldn’t expect Ozzy to be like her, but over the couple of months, I have been thinking how different they are, and it’s not fair. I’m still loving Ozzy, but it’s not fair on him that I miss Cleo, obviously he doesn’t know what I’m feeling.
He is a good boy, I just still want Cleo, want them both, I can’t seem to let go of her. I want all of my attention on Ozzy, not thinking about Cleo – am I making sense ?
Why does this happen ? Cleo probably had the best 3 weeks of her life with me, I’m glad to have been apart of that, but it wasn’t enough.
How do I get over this ? Will I ever ?

OZZY :

When I said that getting another dog wasn’t the right thing to do, I meant that I should have grieved properly first. I would never change Ozzy.
Also, when Cleo was put down, turned out she wouldn’t have survived an operation, she had internal bleeding, so it was ‘the right thing to do’, but I still can’t deal with it
A: You must remind yourself of the good times- you gave her comfort during the last part of her life- that can’t be replaced.
Q: My lab ran under a gate and banged his back end Since then he’s been limping on his back leg. Any ideas?
We took him to the vet because he was struggling to climb stairs and jump into the boot of the car. He occasionally limps on one back leg but he is still bouncy as a normal 2 yr old lab should be. The vet prescribed him anti-inflammatories which don’t seem to be working – it’s been 10 days now. The vet mentioned something about damage to his hips and having to do an x-ray if the tablets didn’t work. It looks like we’ll be taking him back so i’ve researched hip problems like hip dysplasia and I’m worried about the cost. We’ve got pet insurance with Tesco but most insurers don’t cover hip dysplasia, although could this be classed as an accident as he has only had these symptoms since banging his back end? He also seems to be losing weight, which is unusual because he hasn’t been exercising as normal. I’d really appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions or advice.
A: My friends Dally did this and it suffered for a long time. I don’t think that a dog with sound hips will displace them due to an accident and I don’t know anything about the insurance with Tesco.
The reason for my reply is that I have recently researched Chiropractic treatment for dogs. Chiropractors can find problems without expensive xrays and xrays involve an anaesthetic which can be traumatic.
A Chiropractor will gently examine your dog and will be able to find the seat of the problem. Then they are able to manipulate and remedy this. It is painless and your dog may feel tired afterwards. I have a ten year old GSD who has had this treatment and it works wonders. It cost about £25 per session and one session could resolve the problem.
Edit. Be aware that vets often suggest unnecessary treatment, either because they don’t know or because they want to add to their income.
