Q: what pet insurance plan would be best for our great dane puppy?
Anyone have any ideas of what is a good pet plan to get our great dane puppy in?? Plz list the site & any ideas, THANKS!
we’re in canada !

A: ASPCA is not a fraud, and I would hope that you would take the time to check into it. It is a great plan to put your dog on.

You are so smart for looking into putting your great dane puppy on an insurance plan. Most people don’t and wish they had! My great dane puppy has had lots of medical issues-they have really sensitive stomachs, and now since she has so many pre-existing conditions, nobody will accept her! Once again, your best bet is ASPCA.

Good Luck!

Q: How do I get my vet to except direct pay from Pet Plan Insurance?
I can’t afford to pay the vet bill outright which is why I have insurance. Pet Plan says they will do direct pay all they need is a Pre-Authorization form from the vet which list the procedures and the cost. But my vet does not want to give them an estimate in case its more than they estimated.

A: Our software has a high and low end estimate. See if you can convince him to give a pretty high end one. I’m sure he’s been burned by a pet insurance company before.

I’d much rather deal with the care credit folks than pet insurance companies.

Q: Does anyone know if you can claim for cats teeth removal from Pet Plan pet insurance?
My cat has the Pet Plan budget insurance
At work and paper work is at home so can not phone them til then and just got the bill for my cat which was alot.

A: Your vet should be able to advise you on this. All I know is that if your cat has had a persistent problem with his or her teeth and you do not have lifetime cover, than it is treated as a pre-existing condition and will not covered. Also, if you have not had your cat in for annual health checks at the vet, then you wont be covered. Sorry to say it, but these insurance companies know every trick to wangle out of paying up !

Q: Can someone tell me what the BEST pet plan insurance is.?
I have an English Bulldog and I would like to know if anyone (by personal experience) has had a pet insurance that they used. Please let me know the name of the Co. and if they were able to rt. your money for the procedure. I am looking for a plan around $20-25 monthly.

A: Please don’t wast your money on the insurance until you find out if your vet accepts insurance. At the vet. I was working for we didn’t , and most of the vets around didn’t either. Talk to the vet you use and ask him/her what type they accept, if any.

Q: Has anyone used the Banfield Wellness Program or other pet insurance plan?
I am calling around to vets and the price they charge for a neuter is absolutely ridiculous! Up to $240 quoted, which I’m sure means a lot more once all is said and done. Banfield seems to be the cheapest so far, and they’ve been nice and caring for the old kitty.

Anyhow, my question is do you know how long you have to be on the plan to get the benefits? Is it worth the monthly cost? Are you satisfied with the program?

A: I would not use banfield.

Call your shelter and local rescue too.

That is outrageous!!!

Q: In Canada is there a good Pet Insurance plan for rabbits?
I have a Jersey Wooly and would like to get him insured, but I’m having trouble finding anyone in Canada! Also, if anyone could recommend a good vet in Calgary that would be awesome!

A: From my experience, Most pet insurance is not worth it.
And you are better off to self-insure.

Take what you would expect to pay in insurrance, and put it into a savings account. For Example: take $50/month and put into a savings account for pet care. I think you will see that it grows much faster than how much it cost for rabbit care.
When it gets funded where you feel comfortable, that it will handle any illness (say in 2 years you have $1200 for worst case) Then stop paying in, or reduce to just cover the wellness visits, and if you need it the money is there for the rabbit.
I have heard many horror stories about paying thousands of dollars to pet insurance over several years, just to file a claim, and have them pay only 25% or less of the vet bill.

Q: i am looking for pet insurance. What is most comprehensive plan to cover visits, dental and accidents?
I really want my dog to be well taken care of but the medical services are SO SO expensive, does anyone know of an insurance plan that will cover her visits, dental cleanings, and accidents, or problems such and distemper if it is developed?
And I need something that would work in the state of Texas PLEASE!

A: Take the money it would cost you each month for the insurance and put it in a seperate savings account or a piggy bank. This will likely cover your dogs medical expenses. You should save anywhere from $10 – $30 a month. Some insurance plans can run as high as $50 a month. It will also depend upon the breed of dog.

Q: What is a good pet insurance plan (please provide web site link)?

A: There are actually quite a few established pet insurance companies, and several new ones starting up. It’s really important to shop around and make sure you are getting what you want in a policy. Likewise, it is important to familiarize yourself with some of the terms that you will find in the policy you may decide to buy.

Some plans are cheaper, but cover less. Other plans are more expensive, but cover more. The type of plan, and the company you decide on depends on where you are most comfortable in the blending of coverage versus price.

It’s very important to compare plans on an “apples for apples” basis. For example, when you shop for plans you should see if you can download and review a benefit schedule for the type of plan you are interested in. Then, find out how much your plan is going to cost. Then find comparable plans at other companies and do the same.

Make sure you are reading about all of the restrictions that may be applicable to your policy. You will see terms like deductibles, co-pays, benefit limits and exclusions are all important things to consider.

A good website to review some of these terms (to help educate yourself about what is in a policy) is http://www.thebestpetinsurance.com it is a site that is working to provide unbiased basic information to the pet insurance consumer.

The most important thing is to spend some time learning about what you get in your policy for the money spent. The amount and type of coverage should be the maximum amount you can get for your dollar, and be a policy that provides the protection you are happy with. A little research now can help prevent some serious disappointment later on.

Best of luck in your search.

Q: what pet plan insurance pay the full vet bill ,where we dont have to pay the first so much up front?
ive got a puppy and want to get it insured ,UK ONLY….but ive heard some insurance company’s make you pay some upfront ..i want a policy that they pay all the vet bill no matter what …do you know any one that does this thank you

A: There is none…they all require an excess to be paid up front. You best start a savings account with enough for a couple of excess fees in there.

Q: Pet insurance plan for a guinea pig?
Does anyone know of a good pet insurance that would cover dogs as well as guinea pigs?

A: try VIP I know they cover birds don’t know about piggies

each animal will have it’s own policy and different levels of reimbursement

a piggy will have a much, much cheaper policy than a dog or cat due to the fact that they don’t live that long and their medical and surgical care is very limited due to their size and physiology

you may be better off simply depositing thrity dollars a month into a savings account for the piggy and sixty dollars a month into a savings account for the dog as pet insurance from VIP for a dog starts at around 60 a month

for some pet insurance is the way to go but it really hasn’t caught on too well as there are breed specific issues that pet insurance won’t cover at all

for more people it’s easier and better to just sock away money each month instead of buying pet insurance

I had VIP for my dog years ago, it was difficult to get any money, difficult to get the vet’s office to fill out the claim forms, and what I did get was a joke and I dropped it, saving the monthly premiums for me was way better and then when a biggie did happen I had bucks in the bank to take care of it

Good Luck

Q: Looking for pet insurance—Pet Plan??
I’m looking to purchase a pet insurance policy for my Yorkie who at only 3 y/o has had so many health problems. I’ve done some research online and Pet Plan seems to be the one with the most coverage and least exclusions, especially for prexisting conditions. Just wondering if anyone has Pet Plan and can give me some feedback. Or if not an insurance that you could recommend or ones to stay away from.

Thanks :)
I’m in the US

A: Are you in the UK or the US?

Q: Do we need to have pet health insurance plan? Why?
I have pet cat. Do I need a pet health insurance plan for it? Why do I need it?

A: I would say no, unless your cat is old. Cat insurance is pretty cheap so you might think about what benefits it might provide, but cats usually just need to have shots and the cost of insurance may not get recouped over the life of the pet for the rare occasions that the cat is sick enough to need to go to the vet. The claim might also be difficult or time consuming to get paid for, check to see if your vet has an insurance partner that they work with to make it easier, usually you will be required to fax in all the signed documents to make a claim and you’ll only get refunded for whatever isn’t covered by an often high deductible. Vet insurance isn’t going to make the vet trips cheaper by a large margin.

It might be a good idea for an older cat that may need tooth extractions, etc, that can be expensive. Make sure the plan covers a high percentage of costs on the services you expect you will need, and that the payments aren’t going to be more expensive than if you just paid the vet directly.

Basically, do a cost-to-benefit analysis to see if it would be right for you.

Q: UK only – Can anyone please suggest a good pet insurance plan for two 4 month old cats?

A: asda

Q: Does anyone have Pet Plan or Pet First pet insurance?
I’m considering those two, based on info I have. Pets Best sounds good, but it’s not available in my state. There are pluses and minuses to all of them. Does anyone have any bad experience with a particular one? My dog is 7 and healthy, but I don’t want to take chances.

A: Whichever one is going to cover more for the money is what I’d go with. I personally do not have any kind of insurance on my dogs but I have a very reasonable vet and extremely healthy (knock on wood) dogs. Research and ask a lot of questions about each plan to determine what they each cover for what they charge and ask your vet approximately how much it would cost to cover certain things you are concerned about-it may not be economically sound to get the insurance but better yet to stick a certain amount aside from each check to help cover costs for things that may or may not come up concerning the health of your dog.

Q: Pet insurance for my bullmastiff… pet plan, more than, the kennel club or another?
I am on a limited budget, but i need a decent lifetime cover policy. Preferably where the premiums don’t rocket after a claim or when the time comes to renew it. More then seem the cheapest, but many people have said not to go with them… are there any other companies you would recommend?

A: I would agree with the first person that answered, well for the most part. Pets are definitely worth it, they don’t have to be expensive, they are part of our family and we love them. Insurance is just as expensive for animals as it is for people and has just as many flaws.
In our practice, I have actually not seen anyone who has insurance on their pets. I have read over a few plans and didn’t like what I saw. By the time you’ve paid the premiums for a year, you’ve already more than paid for the cost of yearly necessities…vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm medications, etc. The plans I saw would really only cover anywhere from $500-$900 for a major medical procedure, such as a broken leg or foreign body ingestion. That nowhere near covers the cost but definitely would help…until you look at what you’ve paid in monthly premiums. Seems they kind of cancel each other out.
Any kind of crisis can arise when you own pets, believe me, I’ve seen it all. It is great that you are taking steps to help protect your pet, but I would agree that you should start a savings account, it would earn interest or just put money aside at home. Best of luck to you and your pooch, bullmastiffs are awesome dogs!
