Q: Can somebody please give me a link to compare Pet Insurance prices (UK) ?

Q: Where is a good site to compare pet health insurance?
Looked at eopinions.com. Does anyone know where I can find a place to find a comprehensive list of reviews? Also, if you have experiences to share, that would be great as well. I originally thought of Pets Best but when I looked up information on the people that run it, they supposedly have a history of being involved in a scandal and the founder hunts for fun. It makes me nervous about his compassion towards animals. Sure they are wild animals, but I want to choose a plan that I feel most secure with.

I have a healthy 10 month old cat. I want to take him for routine care (check ups yearly, shots, dental cleaning). And of course some coverage in the event of an unexpected medical condition. He doesn’t seem to be a very high risk pet i.e. no birth defects, but you never know.

A: I actually just went through this earlier this year. I didn’t use a comparison per say: just focused on what I whated in coverage. When I got my cats a few years back, I went with Banfield (www.banfield.net) located inside most PetsMart stores. Even though they give you the best coverage for your money, their service is so poor (which made it not so cost effective afterall).

When I sent out to find a new vet, I looked for someone who took my CareCredit card. Once I had a vet, I looked at which insurenace he took and I found VPI (http://www.petinsurance.com/).

I think you should first find a vet your kitten is comfortable visiting and then see which insurance companies know your vet.

Q: Pet Insurance?

Q: Pet Insurance for Dog – Is there a comparison Site?
Tried compare the market and confused but cannot find any for pet insurance.

Looking for insurance for my 1 year old lab.

A: I know it is very confusing when shopping for pet insurance. There are too many information out there and cause a case of information overload.

No pet insurance are the same and you need to find one that tailors to your cat’s need. You have to be careful when choosing because some insurance company place a low cap on their reimbursement even though you are paying for higher premiums. Some will have low deductibles but will not cover much illness or low coverage for accidents and diagnosis. Many insurance companies will not cover pre existing conditions.

I cannot recommend one that stood out from the rest because what my cat needs might be different from what you need.

However, there is a site with a lot of good and useful reviews on the insurance available that you can look into.

Some guidelines:-

How old is your pet? The best time to purchase a pet health insurance policy is when your pet is young. Most pet health problems happen in the last two years of your pet’s life. So, the younger your pet is, the better

Is your breed prone to medical problems? While policy premiums are generally not based on breed, certain hereditary conditions are excluded.

For instance, Persian cats are prone to polycystic kidney disease (PKD). You can still buy pet insurance for your Persian; just don’t be surprised if it fails to cover related issues (some pet insurance policies may cover this, so check with your provider to make sure before you buy).

Is your pet already sick? Most pet insurance providers won’t cover pre-existing conditions. However, if you can prove your pet had a condition that has been cured, that may be covered.

Can you choose your own veterinarian? For many pet owners, vet choice is key, and for good reason. Some pet insurance companies require you to use veterinarians on their own network. Others don’t. As always, check with your provider regarding your choice of veterinarian.

What is your pet’s lifestyle? If your dog or cat spends most of his time outdoors, that will increase his/her risk of illness or injury.

What is covered? Many pet owners purchase pet health insurance policies to protect themselves from the high cost of future medical problems. Others want regular pet care such as annual physical exams and routine checkups and cleanings.

Just be advised that most standard pet insurance policies cover catastrophic accidents and illnesses. Routine vet visits tend to come as add-ons and/or riders.

What State do you Live In? If you are searching on the internet for pet health insurance, you need to check this. Just because a provider does business online doesn’t mean it services your state.

Check The Insurance Company’s Track Record

Every state in the U.S. has an insurance commissioner. If the insurance company you are considering has had legal/ethical issues that should cause you concern, the insurance commissioner’s office in your state or province should know about it. Check with them before you buy.

Q: What is the best/cheapest dog/pet insurance to get?
All those compare the market things confuse me and i don’t get them!!!

A: Pet health insurance will not only save your money but provide the peace of mind that you have done everything possible to safeguard your pets future health.
You can consult your veterinarian or do some research over this.

Q: i need help comparing and chosing the best pet/dog health insurance for my dogs…?
i need a little feedback on pet insurances…who is the best insurance provider when it comes to someone who has multiple dogs..VPI is the most popular but it isnt that convincing to me since they increase their cost as dogs age and i’ve heard too many negative comments about there coverage…. can someone help???

A: ok i used to have pet insurance on my lab… heres the deal pet insurance is a scam, if you factor in shots and your routine checkups on him, with time you end up paying far more for coverage than you would have just paying out of pocket, there was an article i read in the readers digest a few months back taling about insurance scams and pet insurance i believe was number 2 on the list, might wana look that up

Q: can anyone who has pet insurance help me about on going illness?
i got a puppy and i was looking at insurance and im wondering if there are any insurances you found good or if sainsbury’s cover on going illness. my puppy is healthy but i must think of the future for him. i tried pet plan but they asked for £40 a month which is so much compared to what my friends and family pay
my four month old puppy is a miniature poodle

A: Have another look at Pet Plan and query the monthly payment. Mine was much less than this when my dog was a puppy. However when my GSD reached the age of ten, the premiums were increased, nevertheless this was just £39 per month. Unfortunately my last GSD had lots of problems and I have found Pet Plan very considerate whenever I needed to claim. I have had sixteen dogs in the past, however I have only insured my last two dogs. I have probably had more back from Pet Plan than I have paid for my monthly premiums.
EDIT. I should have mentioned that some vets will also cover dogs for emergencies. I have just discovered this and I don’t know how much that this costs. Phone your local vets and see what the monthy payments are and the extent of the cover.

Q: whats the best pet insurance company to go with?
i have a cat (not pedigree) and i am getting a golden retriever puppy

i havent insured my cat before coz he has always been an indoor cat as i have lived in flats above ground level and couldnt let him out.

i am moving into a house and i guess he will get outside at some point.

also the golden retriever is a proper pedigree…. does that matter?
on the comparing websites i need to take out 2 one for each pet cant i get them on the same?

A: Check the individual companies’ websites. Some give a discount for two cats or two dogs and some may give a discount for a cat and a dog. However, it may still be cheaper to insure each separately with different companies.

Pet insurance is worthwhile. I insured my older cat when I first got him and then he got bladder stones, running up a bill for £2250! The insurance company paid the lot.

Q: How much would my vet bills be for a cat in Toronto? I am a new pet owner and I want to budget! HELP!?
I’m getting a kitten so I’ll have to get all the routine procedures, vaccines, de-worming, spaying, etc.

But, I can’t find out any information on the costs associated online! I’m trying to figure out if I ought to invest in pet insurance or not. But, it’s hard to see what’s necessary if I can’t compare costs.

HELP!

A: I’m not from Toronto, but it cost me about $300 (US) to get my cat spayed and all her shots up-to-date at a vet’s. If you call a local shelter and ask when they’re having rabies clinics or spay-and-neuter clinics, you can probably get it done for cheaper.

Q: Insurance for my TOTO?
I am online trying to compare and (consider) getting pet insurance for my cairn and I’m stumped. I don’t hear about too many people who have pet insurance. I can probably see why, because unlike human insurance, you have to pay up front no matter what the situation of your pet is. You could have an emergency on your hands and the bill is 1200.00 and you have to pay it right then and there, but then if you have the pet insurance you have to wait some weeks before getting reimbursed. My thing is what’s the point? If I had that kinda of money sitting around, then I would just pay for my pet and call it a day. I guess I really don’t understand it. Is it really wise to even get insurance for my pet. I want my pet healthy, but I cannot afford huge vet bills either.

A: I think you have it already figured out — it’s pretty much a waste of money. Veterinarians aren’t like human doctors — they don’t refuse to treat animals who have no insurance. Even if you have the insurance, you still have to pay up front and submit the claim. I’d rather just set up a separate savings account and make small deposits into it “just in case”.

Q: pet insurance..help!?
I have a cat and a dog and i want them insured. I want insurance for broken bones, vet fees, boarding costs…i dont want to pay a foutune. I just want to know who you are with and why? and are they any good?
Please dont tell me to go onto price compare sites cos i dont need that. thanks everyone.

A: I have checked into it, and it does not cover vacs, and routine care. Plus it has so many exclusions. I figured they will find a way weasel out of a claim if ever needed. I have a coffee can in my closet. I throw all my change in there and singles when I have them. That is for my emergency pet needs. I so far have come out ahead. Its as like a car warranty that you hardly use, and then its not covered anyway.

Q: Pet Insurance – Lifetime Cover?
does anybody know which company, apart from petplan that offers LIFE-TIME cover for dogs.
We have had a quote from petplan but it’s quite expensive compared with others, but their quotes do not state if the cover is for the LIFE of the pet.

Thank you in advance.

A: Haven’t found another company yet that offers life time cover
Most companies are cheep because they only pay out limited amount in vets fees each year and then will normally exclude that problem from furture policies.
Have never had a problem with pet plan, they have always paid promptly and it is real peace of mind to know everything is covered, especially in todays current money climate!

Q: What is the average cost of living in France?
I was thinking of moving to France. What is the average cost of living compared to The United States? (Particularly New England, but provide what you can.)

- Housing for a three person family (and pets).
- Health/Car/House Insurance
- Electricity/Gas/Water bills
- Phone bills
- Food/Necessities

Also,
- the average salary (compared to the US)
- taxes

What is your personal opinion on living in France?
I would really love to hear your opinion! Thank you. :)

A: I am sorry to have to disappoint you but , if you are not an EU citizen, it is practically impossible to move to France or any EU country.
The rules of immigration to France and the other signatory nations to the Schengen Treaty state that only foreigners who have particular skills or qualifications which cannot be found within the EU can move and work there. The first requisite for France is that they should be fluent in French, the second is that you must be sponsored by an organisation or a firm that is already established on French soil, and they must prove that the candidate they choose has these special skills or knowledge.
Unemployment is extremely high and so are taxes. Many highly qualified people have been made redundant and have to take menial jobs to feed themselves. France is going through a recesssion and prices have rocketed. Life is cheaper by far in the USA. As a foreigner that has not paid anything into the system you are not eligible for free or almost free health care.
I am French and one of my daughters married in America. She lives in New England. Her house is a palace compared to the average French accomodation. Household things, clothes, shoes, toys, fuel, cars and many foods there are amazingly cheap compared to France. Each time I go to see her, I stock up on shoes and clothes. Even luxury goods are cheaper and I am so disappointed that I cannot bring back some of the things I see there. So do not be too disappointed as you are enjoying many advantages where you are.
If it is any consolation, it is just as difficult for us to move to the USA which have also stringent immigration rules for non Americans.

Q: which is better to feed a kitten?
I have been reading a lot on the views of feeding a kitten proper “kitten food” compared to “adult food” what is your opinion on the following:

1. Whiskas KITTEN food contains only 4% meat – but is intended for kittens…

2. Asda own ADULT cat food contains 45% meat – so far more protein, but is not kitten specific.

Which is better for my kittens? they are 5 months old?

I have been feeding them a special 50% kitten food from pets at home, but i just can not afford it anymore plus the delivery costs etc….

I want to feed my cats the best I can get for them and need to get it from my weekly shop really, so anything they do at Asda…

I have read that the only thing different kittens need to cats is more protein, so surely the “adult” food would be better in this case?

Opinions please?

And don’t start slagging me off for wanting to feed my cats special stuff from pets at home, I would if I could afford too but it’s geting 2 expensive, and delivery charges etc so if you are going to be nasty about this (or say if i can’t afford pets i should have them DONT ANSWER) I can afford my pets and pet insurance and vets fees etc!
PS the ingredients list for the Asda food is Meat (Chicken 40%, Ham 4.5%) , Gelling Agent , Minerals , Various Sugars , Taurine , Vitamins.

A: You are smart to be wondering about this. Too many people don’t bother to read labels or ask questions. Do you know what most kitten food is ? Its a bunch of rubbish with cute kittens on the package. It is a marketing ploy.
Ken puts it rightly when he asks about mice for kittens. Momma cats don’t rush out to hunt special “kitten” mice for their babies.
So the important concern is whether the food is high-quality for cats in general. And since kittens are growing rapidly they do need the best you can afford (the best may not always be the most expensive either). Honestly, the Asda food doesn’t sound all that promising. I don’t know why there’d be ham in cat food, don’t know what “gelling agent” is, and there definitely shouldn’t be sugars.
Since you have been having food delivered I’m guessing that you don’t drive, don’t live near a pet store or both. So I suggest you learn about how to distinguish good/bad cat foods and see what you can come up with at the supermarket.
Here are some links. It is a lot to read I know but worth it .Bookmark ‘em:

Q: What’s a fast way of raising money?
I seen a teacup yorkie online that I really really really like. So I talked it over with my parents and they agreed to send the money over seas. But now the problem is in order for the pup to take a plane where we live we need to pay $1,700 for the pet insurance which I just found out about yesterday and the shipping company is holding her there until we pay the insurance thing. But luckily the previous owner is offering to pay $1,000 which still leaves me with $700 to come up with.We even bought her a small enough collar and dog clips to go in her hair the night before she was supposed to arrive, now when I look at those items it just disappoints me cuz she was real close to coming. My parents aren’t going to send anymore money over there but this pup is too adorable and cheap compared to the regular price. Im only 14 years old and need a fast way to get cash. What reasonable and quick way would I go about doing this because I really want this pup.
—— I only have a couple days maybe a week to come up with the money.—— ~PLZ HELP ME WITH MY PROBLEM ~ THANKZ

A: How old is this t-cup yorkie? I certainly hope that she isn’t a bargain because she likes to yelp a lot and draw blood.
How do you know she really exists? and is really for sale?
What sort of recommendations do you have re people from whom you’re buying the dog?
How did you pay for the dog? Credit card, I hope. or Pay pal.
How do you know the dog will pass quarantine?
You should tell the previous owners that they are responsible for getting the dog to you, which includes the insurance. Are you paying more for the insurance than you are for the pooch? Per pound, are you paying more for the pup than you would for caviar?
Apparently you don’t read very much (seen?) — there are a lot of booksellers out there who charge one cent for a book and $20 for S & H. That isn’t a deal.
Your next step is to inform the sellers that the deal is off, that it sounds like bait and switch, that it was their responsibility to tell you about this added cost before any commitment was made…and that you will be reporting them to PayPal and to your credit card people and to their Embassy and maybe Interpol–for starters
Good luck.
