Q: WHat is the best pet insurance company?
I want to buy insurance for my moms dog so it will always be protected. What is the best insurance for pets?

A: Pet insurance can be bought online or offline from leaders like: Pet care Insurance Companies; Veterinary Pet Insurance Company; Pets Best Insurance; and Vet Insurance.

The best way to insure a pet is to ask your vet for advice. Pet insurance at affordable rates can be purchased online from websites devoted to pet insurance and pet care. The premium to be paid depends on age of pet, general health of pet, breed of pet, potential risks for susceptible diseases and so on.

Before investing in insurance you must do your homework and find out all you can about polices, how to keep premiums low, and how to buy the best pet insurance at the most affordable rate. The internet is a knowledge highway and has great information on pets, insurance options, and more. Make the effort to educate yourself. Medical treatment can cost thousands of dollars. And treatments for hip diseases, cancers, kidney failure and more can cost between USD 1000- 5000. In case of disease or accidents pets can be treated and nursed back to health instead of “put down.”

Q: What is the best pet insurance for cats/kittnes?
I have a 4 month old kitten. I went to this fair and was introduced to VPI pet insurance but just read that it was no good. Can someone please tell me a good pet insurance place and please only answer if you have personal experience. Also tell me all I need to know about this whole pet insurance thing. I’m new to this. Thanks. I only want the best for my baby!
How rude you are, I didn’t even know they would do that until I read this plan. I need something to help me when I go to the Vet because I went today and couldn’t pay it all and figured insurance would help. Rude.

A: Hi I’mHers,

First, disclaimer: I work for Embrace Pet Insurance in Cleveland, Ohio.

I’m glad you’re asking questions about pet insurance for your kitten. There is so much information floating around about it and not all of it is correct.

What makes a good pet health insurance policy? My opinion is straightforward: insurance is a promise to reimburse you so one of the main elements of a good policy is full and open disclosure of *everything* that is and is not covered. If you look just at price you are not getting the whole picture.

I encourage you to look at major medical pet insurance (yes, it exists, our company offers it). The idea behind it is you get a plan with a higher deductible and this can dramatically lower your premium, in some cases by 30 to 50%. You can get a major medical pet insurance plan for around $20 to 25 per month per dog (cheaper for cats) and still have coverage for most everything (except routine stuff of course).

Pet insurance buys you peace of mind so that if something bad, expensive, and unexpected happens then your pet is protected.

You should buy pet insurance because you want to be *prepared* in case something bad happens. Remember, insurance is the one thing you can’t buy when you need it the most so plan accordingly.

You’re very lucky in that nowadays here in the US you have a choice of at least half a dozen different pet insurance companies, just go to Google and type in “pet insurance.”

Here are some questions you should ask yourself as you navigate the different plans on the market:

1. Does the pet insurance company give you a choice of deductibles, maximums, and copays to design a plan to suit your budget?

2. Does the plan cover genetic conditions? Make sure their answer is unambiguous because some claim they cover them but there can be “gotchas.”

3. Does the plan cover chronic or recurring conditions? So if your pet gets sick in year 1, does it cover the same illness again in year 2?

4. Does the plan come with coverages that you’ll pay for but probably never use, like “Lost & Found” or “Accidental Death”? These can end up costing you more over the long run than they’re worth.

5. What is and is not covered? Is it clearly stated on their website or over the phone?

6. Does the plan pay claims based on a restrictive benefit schedule or the actual vet bill? You want to avoid benefit schedule plans because they have a high probability of leaving you substantially out of pocket when you make a claim.

7. Are there per-incident or per-body system limits that effectively cap the amount you could receive back? For example, some plans have a $3,000 per-incident limit. If you had a claim for $5,000 with one of these plans then the most you would get back would be $3,000 – ever.

8. How long does the company take to pay claims?

9. What are the rules around pre-existing conditions? Are they excluded permanently or temporarily?

10. Will my premium go up if I make a claim?

11. Will the company increase your co-pay or deductible if you visit a specialist or emergency veterinarian? Some plans do this, make sure you know in advance as not only do emergency & specialists veterinarians cost a lot more but now you’re being asked to foot a larger portion of the bill even though you didn’t sign up for that.

Buying a pet insurance plan requires a little bit of homework upfront. Go with the company that you trust and the plan that you think fits your budget and your needs.

Good luck!

Q: What is the best pet insurance?
I have a 6 month old Alaskan Malamute and a 3 yr olf ginger tom cat.

What is the best insurance company that doesn’t hike up the prices when the dog gets older?

Also, are there companies that give good deals for more than 1 pet?

Thanks

A: I’ve taken out insurance for my two Siberian Huskies with Direct Line Insurance. Do it online and get a 20% discount and discounted rate for more than one pet. I shopped around quite a bit and found this to be the best for me.

Q: What is the best Pet Insurance for kittens?
I’m going to get two kittens from a breeder pretty soon – They’ll be around 12 weeks old. I’ll need to get them spayed and neutered. I’d also like to get them micro-chipped. I’ve checked out a few websites for pet insurance, but I don’t know how to tell which is best. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks!

A: I recently read in Reader’s Digest that pet insurance is not always the best way to go.

Here are the downfalls of pet health insurance:
-The average cost spent on pet health insurance is actually more than the average cost that your pet’s health care will cost during its life (approx. $2000 difference).
-A lot of pet health insurances will not actually cover routine health care, such as vaccinations
-You will be required to pay up front for the veterinary expenses, and then be reimbursed by the Pet insurance. This can get sticky, and the pet insurance may refuse to reimburse you for certain expenses.

The article suggested budgeting approx. $400 per year for your regular veterinary expenses, plus a few hundred extra for emergencies. Pet health care can be expensive, but with kittens, you are unlikely to have any huge expenses that would warrant a costly pet insurance plan. In the event of circumstances where you are unable to pay your veterinary expenses up front, there is a credit card specifically for health care costs that can be used for your vet bills, as well. It’s called Care Credit, and under certain plans it can be paid off interest free. (Make sure the veterinary hospital you will bring your pets to accepts this form of payment before the visit, if necessary.)

Q: Which is the best pet insurance for dog in California?
Hi:
I was wondering which pet insurance is the best and most reliable for my 1 years old mini schnauzer?(I do not want to spend too much, but still need the basic stuff such as vaccine…etc) In addition, I am planning to buy another one, so will there be any discount for 2 dogs in the same plan?
thanks for answer me.
I am using Banfield right now, but I do not think it is worth it to get what I paid.

Q: What is the best pet insurance out there?
I have a 5 month old Jack Russell and I am wanting to get pet Insurance for him. So basically I am interested in what people think it the best pet insurance and is affordable, I am a college student.

A: Money in the bank.
Open a savings account and rather than giving a pet insurance company X amount of dollars per month put that money into the savings account. Pet insurance has too many exclusions, too many holes, and all in all you’ll be better off with paying flat out.

I suggest avoiding Banefield if you can. They have a bad reputation of having tons of exclusions so they don’t have to pay, and the vets doing more then needed just to get more money from owners.

Q: What are the Best (one or two) Pet Insurance Companies to have an Affiliate Relationship with?
Hello!

I have a pet related website.

I’m looking to become an affiliate of one or two of the very best pet insurance companies/organizations.

Does anyone out there have an informed opinion in this regard?

Thanks!

A: I have an informed opinion on this! I’d rather not share it on a public forum, so… please e-mail me using the contact form on this website:

Q: What is the best pet insurance for my puppy?
Hi there, I am collecting my 8 week old labrador puppy on saturday and I am trying to find the best insurance.
Does anyone have any advice as to which is the best?
I am also looking for an option where there is no excess fee although I can’t find any. They all have at least £40 excess that I can find.

I am in the UK.

A: My Dobermanns are insured with PetPlan on their supreme plan.

Why do I opt for insurance?
————————————–…
The cover for life is means that I can claim for the same condition for the lifetime of the dog, all I would have to pay is the excess. I have third party cover if my dog causes damage, complementary medicine such as hydotherapy/physiotherapy. For larger claims I can claim direct which means the money is paid by insurance company directly to the veterinary practise.

When has insurance been invaluable to me?
————————————–…
Case 1. In 2003 my male Dobermann Boris was diagnosed with aggressive skin cancer. Referred to a veterinary hospital with a speicalist team of oncologist. Over 3.5 years the bill to PetPlan was in excess of £10,000, I paid £195.00. Boris lived life to the full, so worth every penny.

Case 2. A Dobermann b*tch developed pyometra, taken to the emergency vet at 23:00, out of hours surgery. Total bill over £700.00.

Case 3. My current Dobermann b*tch ruptured her cruciate & had TPLO surgery in November 2007. The total bill (including physiotherapy and hydrotherapy was £4,300. I paid £65.00.

Well worth the extra money.

Q: what is the best pet insurance for a dog?
I am getting a puppy lhasa apso in 4 weeks and am wondering what is the best place to get pet insurance. I have had a look but am completely confused as there are all different terms and offers. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

A: http://www.gocompare.com/pet-insurance

Pet insurance is based on your post code, the breed of dog, the age of the dog and whether or not it is neutered and vaccinated.

Comparison sites really help. In the end it turned out tesco gave me the best deal, plus the points helped.

Q: What is the best pet insurance for your dog?
I have a 5 month old female pomeranian and her DR. said that her knee caps are out of place and will need surgery in the near future to fix them. What is the best insurance to use ?

A: This will be tricky because now that it has been diagnosed, it is considered a pre-existing condition which no one will cover. If your vet says it is a genetic problem, look into Embrace pet insurance. They are the only company I know of that will cover genetic breed related diseases.

http://www.embracepetinsurance.com/default.aspx?partner=endai

If her knee caps are really bad, it is important to fix them soon. Otherwise, her legs may grow crooked and predispose her to ACL tears and hip problems.

Q: what is the best pet insurance company?
i use aspca pet insurance now, but i feel like the coverage should be better. what is the best pet insurance company out there?

A: I think Trupanion is a great company. They process and payout the claims really fast (usually within a couple of days) and they cover 90% of the bill.
They insure the pet for life (no age limit) but it has to be enrolled by age 14.
I am with Trupanion and I chose them because they don’t limit you like most companies. What sold me was that they don’t have claim limits, so it doesn’t matter how big the bill is. AND they don’t have annual limits, so if a bunch of expenses happen in one year, they will all be covered.
Good luck with your search!

Q: Is there any best pet insurance for cats? I am considering the adoption of a 6 week kitten and a 2 year cat.?
Is there any best pet insurance for cats? I am considering the adoption of a 6 week kitten and a 2 year cat.

A: Insurance is available for cats, and I think it’s a great idea if you’re considering younger cats. Since they have many years ahead of them, that leaves bigger possibility of some accident happening in their life that would lead to an expensive bill.

There are lots of great companies out there, I would suggest to start with petinsurancereview.com as it’s a third party site with ratings from actual customers for each company.

I would highly suggest skipping on the “routine care” coverage for check-ups and shots as paying through the middle-man insurance company just costs more than paying directly to the vet for this type of care. The insurance companies that offer it charge you more so that they will make a profit or else it would be pointless for them to offer it.

I like Trupanion for pet insurance. My dog is insured through them and I’m happy with the service. The rates are low and you can essentially set your price by picking your deductible. They cover 90% and they don’t have claim limits (so many companies will limit you to like $1000 per claim, so if you get a bill for $8000 then what good is that insurance??).

Definitely check around to find what sounds best for your needs!
